Glad to join the club (forcibly)

Mine is from Anglo like the others. Very happy with it indeed.
I can honestly recommend Anglo, they held a rifle for me when I couldnt put all the money up front, yeah I had to wait, but gave me time to save up ! And now like others mentioned,now that it is in my case I love it.
Anglo : Nice people to deal with, and was glad to hand them my hard earned cash.

Mine is an Enfield 1959, and I too have given it sex change from Plastic to wood. The stock is the longer length marked 1960 and the forends are the two slotted (not indian) british ones marked 1961.

Also equipped with a Brit Suit sight with betalight to light up the tip orange, took off the aftermarket LED thingy, eeugh.

Now there was a service rifle. Shoot your qualification in any weather, it didn't care. Not particular about ammo either. Adjust gas and go on.

Nice, let us know how it shoots, and how you get on with the Suit. If you don't want to load, the privi 145grn load shoots well and so does the lithuanian nato the range office at Bisley is selling. Cases have to be full length resized to cycle reliably.

I picked up 200 x PRVI 145gn yesterday. Out again with the L1A1 next week :madsmile:

I understood that these Anglo Custom straight-pulls had to be made of a mixture of parts from different rifles in order to not be classed as Section 5?

I know there is some debate about whether LuxDefTec or Schumacher Arms actually provide the rifles in this way as they divert all questions regarding Section 5 compliance to ACR.

Please do not start mischief causing another thread to be locked - let your dispute with ACR go, or at least please do not bring it into this thread ;)

LDT and Schumacher would divert S5 questions - the Firearms Act 1968 is a British statute and does not apply to them.

The ACR L1A1's are Section 1. I have a copy of the email from the Forensic Science Service when they signed them off as such, and my FEO (full time, a shooter, ex armed forces, very knowledgeable) was quite happy with mine when he was doing my Firearms Certificate renewal three days ago :)

Any queries as to legality should be first put by any potential customer to their FEO who can liaise with their FELWG rep at the Home Office. They will all get the Formal Notice from FELWG as they appear on their published minutes. The full report from the FSS on the origin of every working part is available from me to anyone who needs one and who wants it for genuine purposes.

Just a geniune query as, when I was in discussion with ACR they were unable to guarantee or confirm whether it was possible for all thell original parts would be from either the same factory or the same year. However the vagueness of their replies on this could have been down to dealing with a salesman, not a qualified gunsmith.

I am fully aware of the claims ACR make for their rifles and Section 1 compliance regarding ACPO FELWG and the FSS letter - hence the query.

I go by the reciever which has an Enfield Serial and 59 date. some other parts are D59 marked. All My brit wood is BSA B1960. The wood I got before I got the rifle as I was expecting a BSA, but even happier when I got an Enfield one (Cheers Anglo !)

I had mine with suit at the range yesterday, all on a target on my own. After a few cracks with some Federal I was totally surrounded by club members wanting to have a look / go. I managed to get a video of a group I shot which I will have on my YT channel soon.

My FAO is happy with this rifle, I am happy, so no issues here.

Just a point in regards to peoples issues over the rifles having or not having all the 'same' parts.

Unless the rifle has been a cocoon since if left the factory its more then likely the rifle will have a mix of Enfield (D), BSA (B), Fazakerley (F) AND Australian parts fitted to it. These rifles were the last of the war reserve and from what I have seen of them, they were overhauled and rebuild to D118 Standards before being preserved and then put into storage, finally being sold off.

Even 'factory new' Enfield made L1A1's are a mix of Enfield and Fazakerley parts.

So true NZL1A1....... The initial production of Lithgow L1A1's were supplemented with a lot of Fazakerley L1A1 produced parts that went there with the machinery that Faz had started up production with. Alas, the industrial relations there ensured that they didn't start up early enough, produce enough or care enough! Until the government of the day said that they'd had enough! In Australia we saw loads of readily/easily recognisable UF trigger mechanism housings renumbered for AD made L1A1's

Peter, any idea where I can source a brass butt plate from? I've made up the last one in wood with bronze end caps on the carry handle and just need a brass plate.

They never produced a brass butt plate for the L1A1 rifle. If you want a Brass one you will have to make one from scratch. You can have either Aluminium or Plastic(including plastic Butt)

There are two types of Aluminium Butt plates;
1) with Butt Trap.
2) No Butt Trap

On the various parts topic, my ACR L1A1 is made up of many different BSA, Enfield and Fazakerly bits as one might expect. The receiver is BSA 1958. The lower part (trigger housing) is stamped with the same s/n, but is an Enfield part dated 1965.

Would the armourers have stamped the s/n on a 'new' trigger housing when this was added to the rifle?

Yes, the main serial number the other parts have to adhere to is the Body's (upper receiver for those Americans out there) serial number.

Thanks mate, I have a couple of F marked peices, but most is D marked, have also got hold of an Enfield marked mag.
The wood needed some work on, gave it some wire wool and then shined it up with some polyurethane

Replacement T.M.H's were NEVER stamped with serial numbers in British Service. They had the Ser.No's ENGRAVED at second line workshops.
If numbers were stamped into the TMH, there was the possibility of distorting it. (& also it looks MUCH neater workmanship Engraved!)

Here here Tankie............. Never stamped but engraved. As a matter of interest Tankie, do you ever remember ring punching the TMH axis pin hole. I mean........ It must have been a 'tiffy' who invented that bodge. He never realised that if it'd already worn oversize once, then thinning the steel down will ensure that it wears out even quicker the next time!
(A 'tiffy' is an artificer...... don't even bother to ask me why some of them got this title! and a 'bodge' is a REME technical term that yuou wild colonials and antipodeans call a 'bubba')

One of the civvy Armourers at Sterling came up with a brilliant solution that was a permanent FIX. I sat on the panel to assess it. It passed with flying colours but then.................

I too have an L1A1 here in Canada (NFLD). All walnut stocks. Its a 1960 made BSA. My onlt peeve is that the carrying handle flops around alot.

Fixing a floppy carrying handle is easy to cure. Remove it and add a little more bend to the coil that wraps around the SCREW, carrying handle. But DO NOT allow the sharp end of the coil to engage the body as it'll act like a lathe tool and cut away at it. Allow part of the loop to tighten into the body. Problem solved

Pete, Yes I Do remember that HUGE jig that was available. I concurr with your comments about thinning the metal.
In my expirience, once a TMH was Ring Punched & the wepaon used again. It didnt take more than six months for the TMH to loosen up again at the axis holes!
The only Correct solution would have been to open out the axis holes & braise or weld & dress to profile. A couple of bushes in the TMH to rectify oevrsize axis pin holes. In reality, the TMH eventually was replaced after a couple of the 'ring punching' ''Repairs''! So all it did was delay the inevitable! These days of course. Engineerin materials & methods & machinery has moved on at a tremendous pace. & the selection of repair methods available for choice,are a lot better & varied!

my l1a1 arrived yesterday and im as as happy as pig in sh1t its been a long time since i had one of these it brings back a lot of happy memory,s in the 80s i had one of these and a galil sniper i was realy ****ed off when they were banned ,a gang of us loaded a landrover with as much 7.62 as we could lay are hands on went to the range shot the lot ,bent the barrel,s then handed them in but hey thats history! on a brighter note, gavin is very good to do buisness with what i would call a bloody nice chap .
