Afternoon all,
Short story, I am an Appleseed instructor and I am trying to find the proper nomenclature for the parts of a GI web sling. To date I have found some of the names but I have doubts. I would like to know the correct names for the purpose of consistency.
I have what is commonly called the lock, should be called "Keeper". The adjuster should be called the "H Buckle". The clip should be called the "Hook".
Can anyone confirm or correct these names?

Sling, rifle, M1907 for the leather sling. Depending on what type. As far as the parts???
Nope, I got 1907s, they are my favorite. I am talking about the GI Web sling.

The term "Buckle" is not what was being used within the industry making the slings. Within the industry it was called a "slide". It still has that name today.
Hey Bill, correct me if I'm wrong but I think he is asking what the military nomenclature is not the industry nomenclature. Coming from a Field Manual as buckle wouldn't that then be the military nomenclature?

That's it. I needed a later manual maybe? In any event that is exactly what I was looking for, keep all my instructors using the same names for the parts.

Time also has something to do with names. By the late 1960's the Web Repair TM listed the buckle as the industry designation, "slide".
It depends upon which manual and what time period.
Art Tuttle always used to rant about the manual writers for things like Bullet Guide. "It doesn't guide anything and it doesn't touch the bullets," he would rave. He was a real curmedgeon -- I would write a letter to him asking a question, and he would answer... but the whole first page was usually a diatribe on what a dope I was and how I didn't know anything. Then he would answer the question :)
I have sometimes had some trouble with manual photos -- since they often write the manuals very early in the process, the illustrations are often of pre-production stuff, even commercial examples that were used to evaluate the weapon.
