Yep, it's a No.4, other than that you pics are'nt really helpful, a square side on shot of the receiver markings, markings on wrist, barrel just for starters, and does the bolt serial No. match the rifle?
It appears that your lower barrel band has a hole in it. Is this so?
Those Indian No4s that were intended to launch grenades had holes drilled through both sides of their lower barrel bands, to which Indian grenade launching sights were affixed. The forestock on these rifles have dimples, in the same plain as the band's holes, in them from the sights. Your furniture doesn't appear to have the dimples.
Dont see much for markings on the receiver.
Sure is a tell you nothing, take you nowhere job.
BSA FTR of a Maltby, which someone has recently brush-painted with black paint?
Way off track but has anyone got a picture or description of this Indian sight that fits onto the lower band? Anti tank/vehicle grenade or personell?

It's very Energa (94 Grenade) like. I think that I prefer our version.
What is this Indian obsession with grenade launching? Is it more to do with "Aid to the Civil Power" as we used to call it, rather than actual combat? That is to say anti-riot which they seem obsessed by as well.
(BTW, yes I know that the label is dreadful and that Energa is spelt incorrectly.)
