Welcome aboard C1. Enjoy the site and all it has to offer. Keep us posted on your CMP purchase.
Is that right? Where in AV were you? And, where in Tay-has are you now?
I was so happy with my 1st SA SG CMP garand I ordered a 2nd before I cleaned the 1st. Both are great. not sure about your area but finding a M1 garand in what I would call rack grade or worse for under 1k is not going to happen. CMP the only sight unseen place I would purchase a gun from. You just cant expect better than the service grade criteria(you may get it) both mine where/are great shooters $$$ only stops me from buting another. If I stopped shooting for 8 months I could by another....shoot or buy shoot or buy......trigger finger wins for now I shoot.
HOLD THE SHOW!!!! I see you got a SPECIAL....how can you go wrong..............thats 2k at any dealer near me!
Well, wonderful to have you here! Again, please enjoy.
The Palmdale thing I won't hold against you ;)
Just be suprised
And I was. It came in today, and all I can say is WOW. Why did I wait all these years to buy a Garand.....It is beautiful, now to give it a cleaning and fiigure out what lube goes where. Will try posting pics later. Already want to order another one and haven't even shot this one yet!!!!

Attachment 27080CMP Garands are great!
Prepare for the unpacking.
My first SA service grade is one of my favorites... had an LMR re-barrel and a cleaning kit in the butt stock
Then came the Danish SG, which has a VAR barrell and found a paper written in Danish listing the site clicks for given yardages.
Then I ordered (2) correct grades (SA and H&R) that are so new I've never even shot them.
Followed by the Winchester SG that is an absolute tack driver.
And of course, my current favorite, I was lucky to buy one of the few SG IHC's.
That one came with an LMR barrel that was correct for that serial number... and about 80% correct IHC parts. Despite the rarity of the tractor gun I shoot it alot because it just feels right and is sooo accurate.
And I'm not going to go into all of the '03's....
Enjoy your CMP Garand and have fun.
But be careful because it can become an addiction

The gun was in very nice shape TE 1+ ME 2+. Metal was I bit more worn than I expected, but it is not bad. The wear appears to be from handling, not actual use. This may be a case of my expectations being "off". I don't think this gun has been anything but test fired. Overall, I am very happy with what I received. How else can one procure such a significant piece of history in such shape at a reasonable cost.
One thing that you should expect to do is field strip the gun and lube it. My gun was very dry.
