This one is ready to go back into service

This is a very nice OI HW stock that had a crack behind the recoil plate that we've all seen before. After a thorough cleaning I found that the plate ledge was also broken, and fell out. Step one was fixing the recoil plate ledge. Step two was glueing the crack. Step three was alot of hand work to make the crack disapear. Some oil and job done.....Frank

You usually can see a crack, but it's gone. Plate ledge, did you just glue it back in?

Hi Rog, yes just glued, not much room for a pin there. When the recoil plate is screwed in it will hold up. This is the ledge in the clamp.....Frank

Great job Frank, every fix just seems to turn our better than the one before. I know you can break wood with your bare hands, looks like you can fix it too. For those of you that dont know it, Frank is a Black Belt in Martial Arts, and has several Schools and Martial Arts teachers under him.:super:

Rusty, thank you. This one took some time to make that crack disappear. My last three pics show the progress. I have a hard time telling whare it was. It was worth it nice CC, and only type one band shadow.

Frank: Hats off to you

It is really satisfying too see someone who can do this type of work. The service you are doing for these old firearms is just wonderful. I would imagine that with today's composites and adhesives that pretty much anything is possible. You add what can't be done by a machine or glue, the hand work that it takes to make the original wood look like it did before the failure. I've got a tiny crack on my 03A3 stock that I need to look at, seeing your work helps me have the confidence to try.
