Hello, I'm new to the forum and just got a Lee Enfield no.4 MK.1 you can see the post here.
This may be the wrong forum sorry if it is.
I took off the buttplate and a paper flew out.
From what I can make out it reads:
Sam Jackson
Pluline (smudged word)
no 647xxxxx
(smudged word, looks like it might say serial) 419xxxxxxx
The pluline might be something else not sure though, the paper is pretty smudged.
The 55 might be a 22 not sure.
Any ideas what this might be?
Nothing comes to mind here...a good close up photo would be a big help.

It looks pretty much like the pictures.
Looks like a prior owner put his (and her) details on the slip of paper in case the rifle was stolen or lost. I think the "Pluline" is more likely "Pauline", and the following number is a phone number. The last set of numbers looks to be a social security number, issued in Alabama between 1936 and 1950. The last line looks like it reads "social security".
Agree with Spinecracker...Sam and Pauline Jackson with a phone # and ssn.

You are welcome. I am used to reading other doctors' handwriting, so a smudged bit of paper that's been stuck in a rifle for decades is a doddle lol.

The phone number ties up with a "Jackson" in Montevallo Alabama in the 1953 phone directory

All you have to do is fumble around and it's amazing what you can find. Searching for early 1950's Triumph rigid frame and pre-unit engine parts turns you into an adept at using it.
