First time posting here. I just picked up a Mosin Nagant M91/30 and need to clean her up before heading out to the range. Looking for ideas on what sizes of bore cleaner and brushes to pickup. Thanks for any information thrown my way.

A normal .30 cal brush worked fine for me. The intended kit for those rifles work great too when using a cloth patch.
Thanks I live out in the middle of nowhere and cann't locate the correct cleaning kit. A .30 cal kit will be a lot easier to pickup.
Glad to help. Have fun shooting that thing. I love my three Mosin's.
I used my M-1 cleaning kit. I sold my 91/30 was sorry i did 3 mins later.
Do you know if it is Russian of Finnish (SA marked)?
Careful if you decide to take the bolt appart, should you not have the issued tool to put it back together you'll have a hard time making the firing pin protrusion right.
I thought the bolt was rather easy, check youtube and you will find all the info you need. Just be sure to check the firing pin with the gage provided. If you use suplus ammo make sure to clean the rifle after you use it.
I understand where you guys are coming from when you say you'd be sorry to sell your Mosin on some terms, but not others.. here in California they sell those things like Hot Cakes! They (they being gun suppliers/sporting good stores/civilians) Beg to get rid of them.. im not too sure about where the rest of you are from, but here even my Hex-Reciever, 1939 Russian only got appraised for 75-100$ This one has the CLEAREST and cleanest engravings out of 90% of the others i have seen on the internet. It also has a relativly Low serial number (all matching). I do love it.. fun, reliable, cheap gun to own/operate..
A .30 cal cleaning kit will do the job.
Original Soviet cleaning kits are available for cheap all over the web, check the usual suspects and eBay.
You probably should take the rifle out of the stock for cleaning as most bore cleaners play heck with the shellac the Soviets slathered on the stocks.
You can adjust the firing pin protrusion without the official tool, but you will need a depth gage or calipers (and know how to use them). The min protrusion is 0.075 inch and the max is 0.095 inch. See figures 40 thru 44 of the attached link.
Here are a couple of links that you might find useful.

I wondered what this tool was for other than the screwdriver portion of it. Thanks

The 3 left side notches are for adjusting the firing pin depth the notch on the right is a firing pin wrench.
Yeah, after reading the links that Dad posted (Dad, sounds odd ;) ) i saw that. Good stuff. Never too old to learn a thing or two.
