Hi Kenny ... :)
I'd go to the Imperial War Museums (click here) in London for sure ...
I'm going myself in September ..

Doug
Doug,
Thanks for the input, I'll look it up for sure. I assume you moved the thread? I also assume now yours will be the only response and most people (to include all my garand collector friends) never look at this section...
Thanks I think...
You'll probably get more responses here. National Army Museum is another one. It's smaller than IWM but nice. nam.ac.uk

This is a vast topic, but much depends on your interests. The Imperial War Museum covers 1914+. The National Army Museum (also in London) covers everything prior to 1914. Chelsea Hospital,
next door, is also well worth a visit.
If you want a regimental museum, go to Winchester. The R. Hampshires, the Gurkhas, the King's R. Hussars, and, above all,
the R. Green Jackets are all there. If God made military museums,
the R. Green Jackets museum is exactly what he would have created.
I would recommend:
National Army Museum
IWM Duxford
Bovington Tank Museum
RAF Hendon
IWM Belfast
I would strongly recommend you to avoid IWM London!! Unless you have absolutely no notion of the history of armed conflicts you are bound to be utterly disappointed!
Royal Armouries, Leeds
LOTS of small towns & cities have their own regimental museums
MOST castles/regional museums have sections in them about Volunteer Units, Boer War, WW1 & 2, etc.
TRY to narrow it down by deciding WHERE in England you will be heading
Us locals can then point you to the better places to go...and in some cases also meet for a beer, etc. too
EDIT:
I bet you are the nice chap that has agreed to bring a few packs of Duracoat secreted about your person as an extension of the once fashionable Lend-Lease Agreement??
Go see the historic Portsmouth Dock and HMS Victory. There are other museums in the area within walking distance. We took a ferry to Ouistreham France to follow the D-Day invasion route to visit Normandy.
I'll be staying in Birmingham. I ama history buff and collect minly US WWII stuff (garands, carbines, .45's, shotguns, etc) but am facinated with Medievel Armour, Swords, Castles, etc. I am trying to see the kind of stuff i cant see at your typical US Gunshow...
Thanks!!!

Museums Of Great Britain

Doug
Warning! The Brits do museums like we do fast food - there is one on practically every corner and most are excellent. You run the risk of wearing yourself out trying to hit as many as possible. If you are in it for artifacts, I'd have to say that the IWM London is full of the real thing from WWII. Not only that, once you've gone, you can say you've experienced Bedlam, because the museum is quartered on the grounds of that famous lunatic asylum. Accessible by Tube from the Elephant and Castle Station, which was used as a shelter during the Battle of Britain. As you exit via the Arcade, you face CH Spurgeon's Metropolitan Tabernacle church. For medieval armor and weaponry there is a great royal collection in the Tower of London and some lovely twinkly gems as well. Just buy your tickets from a Red Bus up on the hill to avoid the box-office line at the gate. Accessible by Tube. RAF Hendon just North of London houses a great collection of stuffed and mounted aircraft and artifacts from their air war history. Accessible by Tube and train.
If you are going to be in London for a bit it makes financial sense to invest in an unlimited Tube pass for the zones where you'll be traveling and the period you'll be there. Any longer trips to outlying zones like Hendon can be paid for individually to keep the cost down.

When I was there in the late 80's there was a aera of London in the north end that was fecnced off after the was and it is just like it was after the blitz. I ran accross it by accident on the way to Liverpool and was never able to go back and find it. I would have loved to see it in the daylight It was dusk when I was there.
As mentioned before, Bovington Tank Museum is a great place where to go. Here are some fine pics of it:
