Sorry, I don't understand the question.
The rifle is a K98 (K98k, I presume). Sight blade missing, so you installed a "standard German front sight blade", which would be for a K98k. So what's the problem? All German-made Mausers from my M1871 to the Israeli use the same front blades (apart from some carbine types with integrated "ears", which may cause a problem). As far as I know, there is no specific "Norwegian Mauser" front blade. Please enlighten me if I have misunderstood something.

The Norwegian Mauser frontsight blade is a broader one, like you find it on the Swiss rifles, not the "Dachkorn" like the german variant.
I've been on the road. Sorry about not respomding sooner. Yes, indeed, the Norwegians did install a new front sight of there own design. I am in need of a real Norwegian front sight blade. Anybody out there have a lead? Thanks.
HI i recently purchased a Norwegian k98, 30 06 caliber with blond timber in great condition, it dose not have the Norwegian, issued front sight post, i have fired this rifle out to 300 yards and it is extremely accurate, the Norwegians modified the rear sight from a v to a u notch which i find a much better sight picture. I am also on the look out for a norwegian front sight post i am making inquires over here and if i come across any i will let you know, i have tried to post pictures of my Norwegian k98 but i failed to upload them to this site.

I had not known they had a different front sight. I will have to look at mine to see. Did any other non original parts get subbed when these were rebarreled to 30-06 or 7.62?

Good pictures of your Mausers gentlemen. Interesting information.
I thought they would be the same except for the notch out of the receiver and a difference in graduation for the 30-06 ammo.
I was looking for one for the Norwegian K98k 30-06 Mausers for my collection. Eventually I will find one, just have to wait, my patience usually pays off.
Here are my four. HAER(Army), FLYs(Air Force), K.Art(Coast Artillery) and Politi(Police), G33/40, SN 9. The first three have the thicker front sight and U notched rear sight while the G33/40 has the original sights and was not converted to 30-'06. Still looking for a Navy marked one....they were left in 8MM Mauser as well. Regards, Rick.

Great collection of K98s. I didn't know they used the 33/40 in Norway. It must one of the rarest finds in European Mausers?
SakoRick.
You have a great collection and great commitment to it.

This made me go look at the sights on mine last night. Sure enough the front sight has been sharpened by a previous owner. I have never seen what the profile was supposed to look like but here is what remains next to a 98 sight blade I had in the bin.

Does anyone have a pic of what the profile of the sight actually is?

Here is the Norwegian front sight. Regards, Rick.

Unfortunately you are correct. When the Green party took over in the early 90's all the Mausers were rounded up and welded together for displays. Only the State Railroad still has a few to dispatch crippled animals along the way along with hunters who acquired them years ago. The few that were imported to the states were not originally thought to be a collector's piece until the well ran dry in very short order as the Green Party outlawed the sale of arms from Norway. I have never touched another G33/40 but have seen pictures of a few and that was many years ago. From what I understand, all the G33/40's were issued to the Police and not to the military. It's a real shame this had to happen as the Norwegian examples were generally matching and in pristine condition. Regards, Rick.
thank you for the kind, comments Hooked on History, their was a small number of Norwegian captured k98 Mauser's that came on the European market about 2 years ago they were in next to mint condition, and they all had blond timber. i have seen a couple of them and none of them had the Norwegian front sight blade, but this dose not affect accuracy as my Norwegian Mauser which has a German front sight post is very accurate, supplies of parts for these Mauser's and the rifles themselves have now become very very scarce.
The story I have heard follows: The Militia members were allowed to purchase their 98 Mausers for something like $5.00. Many did buy them many did not. The Militia then were turned in their bolt guns and were issued G3's(?), correct if I am wrong. All of the bolt action guns went into storage. A Green Party President ordered all of the bolt guns destroyed as Norways part of the SALT Treaty. Note: the Italians destroyed piles of 7.62mm Garands for the SALT Treaty. I think the Norwegian Navy may still have some and the Rail Road still has some. But they are gone and will not return. Sad, but true.
Steve, the destruction of the bolt action Mausers owned by Norway were in no way connected to the SALT treaties I and II. You can hardly connect a strategic arm to a Mauser rifle. The SALT treaties were in the 70's not the 90's. Norway's Green Party did this on their own. However you cut it, it was a sad day for collectors. It is rumored that the K98's Russia stored were in a round about way connected to the SALT treaty as they removed the front sight protector, cleaning rod and the little screws that locked the triggerguard action screws. Boy, what a huge success that was in the eyes of our politicos!:eek:Regards, Rick.
Salt I 1972, Salt II 1979. They did indeed limit all sorts of weapons, not just missles. Lots of submarines decommisioned. But it was a Green President who ordered the Mausers destruction. They were cut-up so that no parts could be recovered. Total destruction. I really don't know how any got out of Norway. My rifle has a very poor bore, but most have nice bores. I can't find a Norwegian 30-'06 barrel, either. Oh, well.
I forgot to add this. My Norwegian buddy told me along with the Mauser rifles all M1 Carbines in storage were also cut-up. He liked the carbine (he carried one in the Norwegian Army) and felt their destruction made no sense.
Well, they didn't cut all of them up. A private investor purchased 75,000 K98's and has no export license. He can only sell approved rifles to sportsmen. Then there is the stack of welded rifles at the Military Museum in Oslo. When I was there 7 years ago I crawled around and found three SS marked ones among other rarities. I almost cried......they used floorplates and followers welded from action to action to create the sculpture. Regards, Rick.

Oh, good grief. I hope some of those 75,000 head this way.
I think I am going to spew.
