In a local classified ad, I found a listing for a P-14 that was made by Remington in 1918. I called him and he said it was a 303 Brit. When I ask what it said on the receiver all he would say “is it P-14”. Did Remington or Winchester ever make P-14’s? Or is the guy trying to pass off a rechambered 1917.
All three companys made P-14s for the british and then altered the machinery in 1917 to build the model 1917. I would wonder why he wouldn't say what was on the receiver. I have only seen a couple of p-14s and they did not have date stamps by the muzzle. It's always possible that someone put a p-14 barrel on a 1917 receiver and vise versa.

You can't just do a barrel change. The feed lips in the body are different, the bolt face on .30 cal is much smaller too. The whole thing isn't the same. It's not just a simple thing. I wouldn't bother with a rifle I can't possibly identify from a shady vendor. Who knows what else is up?
My P-14 .303 was made by Remington. There's no date stamp, but the maker and caliber markings are on the barrel near the muzzle. The only thing on the reciever is some proofmarks. It shoots great by the way.
OK , the recievers on the P1914 rifles were marked with the makers mark and serial number ,
ERA = eddystone
RE [in oval] = remington
W = winchester
no way to missrepresent that ,
buttstock was marked arrow - over -circle [with company ID] - over - PATT 14 , the company ID was ;
IW = winchester
IE = remington
IE = eddystone
and virtually all parts were marked with E / W / R , keep in mind the commonwealth did not require interchangability that the US specified , bolts were numbered to the reciever , barrel was marked with serial number on right side on knox form and factory and model number on the bottom [IE , IR , IW] , along with some proofs
there were inspection marks , proof mark , acceptance/ownership marks , and some others like weedon repair code 'letter'
The P.14 barrels have been marked with the year of production under the rear handguard. And just to be exact - there were only two companies producing P..14 (and M1917s) - Eddystone was just a Remington plant.
