New Book ?

Can anyone give us an opinion on this book which has just been bought to my notice ? First published November 20, 2011 ? A good buy or a bad buy ?. Thanks. Mike.

I haven't seen that book. But I Googled this writer. Seems he has written about many weapons. Like a series, same type looking covers. Guessing it has nothing new in it.

Looks like he is a professional writer, not a professional gun collector. My question is how detailed and accurate is his information? Does he rely on references from others or did he take a crash course on carbines? If so, who taught him - Duff or "larson"... could be good or could be very bad.

I am curious to see who/what he has referenced in the bibliography...

I find it interesting that forum users on the CMP site are now referring to the L book as a wonderful source of valid information. So like a slow growing boil, it becomes something to pay attention to and in the eyes of the uninformed has validity as a reference document. This guy's book is probably a nice read but for us, will offer not much at all.

The book appears to more a history in story form then a sourse of collector information. Would not really be much if any value to the members on the forum here.

I have it. Nothing new in the book, the bibliography references all the usual collector books (Ruth, Reisch, Harrison, Canfield, Larson, a couple of manuals). It's not a bad overview of the carbine, but there's nothing new in it. It actually reminds me most of a fairly decent big-picture research paper. It is part of a series of books and should be taken as what it is--an overview.

Yeah, same here. I don't know if that release date was something posted months ago, or recently. The NRA Carbine book listed there is one I personally like - I tried to buy another one at the Portland show this past weekend, and two different vendors told me it is NA. - Bob
