Browsing Gunbroker, I happened across this item:

How common were these items in actual use? I've never seen a picture (wartime or otherwise) depicting this case being used.
They are also the latest lot of repro's being made in India. The quality of the webbing looks repro to me, but all the ones I have are Canadian and in some items the Canadian webbing is of much better quality than UK issue.
I second that! It looks like Indian jute sacking.
I guess I need to get out more, that's the first repro of a soft case I've seen. I have a few old ones I use to transport rifles to and from the range.
Has anyone worked out what the large pocket in the originals was for. It was far too big for a cleaning kit....... I always thought that maybe a tent and a groundsheet would fit!
I was always told it was for the breech cover. And why do some of them have hooks for a sling and some don´t?

None of them had sling attachments and if you see one with some kind of sling it's been added post-service. A great many have been so modified. For many years it was about the only type of gun case you could get here and all sorts of extension snouts and gussets were added to them to make them accept other arms.

There's one thing I just noticed here. I went to the page and looked at the other items down below. They're all reproductions. That means in my mind this one is for sure. Not sure if you others looked at that part.
