Shooting my No 4(T) at 1,000 yards

Well, why not? The scope is calibrated that far :D.

I was on our club's long range (1,200 yards max) on Saturday, we were shooting 800/1,000/1,200 yards, so I thought for a giggle I would take the 4 (T) as well as my long range .308.

At 800 the 4 (T) was relatively straightforward to shoot (allowing for the fact the sight post point covered the whole of the vbull). Once I got the elevation figured out, it would put everything in the black (there was a fair breeze running across the range) with the best a lucky vbull. I could just about see the spotting disc at this range :D.

At 1,000, again once the elevation was figured out, it would put pretty much everything on target, but not with any meaningful grouping.

(I didn't try it at 1,200 ;) ).

I am currently using Kynamco ammunition loaded with a 174gn SMK bullet, which probably replicates Mk 7 ball fairly accurately.

Above all, the 4 (T) is just fun to shoot, and it is nice to stretch it out distance wise now and again :).

Does it fully replicate to down to the flat base bullet?

Unfortunately not, it is a boat tail. I don't reload, and I don't know of anyone in the UK (Kynamco, HPS, PPU) that loads commercial rounds with a flat base :(

My SMLE does not like BT one bit, now with FB she groups real well

The Kynamco I have does have the flat base bullets

(excuse the quality of the sectioning I only had a rusty screwdriver and an angle-grinder)

I do not reload I have used new Prvi BT rounds and had very bad consistent groups. I then tried Pakistani FB surplus rounds with much better successes. Then I got real lucky and found some surplus British rounds and she performs very well with these rounds.

I didn't realise Sierra actually did a flat base SMK! They list them as a BT. Guess I'd better pull one of mine and see what I have ;)

If they do- let us know! I'm thinking Beerhunter is using different ammo than Alan de Enfield. Both just happen to be Kynamco brass under the bullets.

I think that you are confusing me with someone else. I haven't commented on what I currently use; which happens to be PPU boat-tails because I can't get a flat base bullet.

I could be wrong but I dont think Kynamco 'make' anything these days - they just 'assemble'.

The brass on my Kynamco is S&B and only useful for 'scrap value' after one firing.
I have yet to come across anyone who has succesfully reloaded S&B brass past 2 reloads.

I'll have to dig-out the box, as if I remember it does state the bullet manufacturer / type and it wasnt Sierra - I've got a feling it was an 'ROF' batch of one-million they sourced. It was mentioned on here a year or two ago.

I called Kynamco two weeks ago shopping for Mk 7 174 g flatbase bullets for reloading. Seems I'd read a post months ago that they replicated the original Mk 7. Very nice staff and pleasant conversation, but not available, and did not anticipate any available. She did note that they used the Sierra.

Sierra makes a 180 grain flat base Pro-hunter bullet that's been a favorite of mine for years. The 174 grain Sierra Match King is a hollow point, boat tail configuration.

No, but I somehow inferred you were using a specific brass, which was incorrect. Sorry!

closest I can find is the Sierra 180 sp/fb its only 6 grains heavier than 174 but you can even that out with your powder charge.
