I know the seller and he has probably found a better one. It looks like a kosher deal to me knowing the guy. He also knows his caca on snipers....
My observation of a National (or NATO) stock number on the scope and the container would tell me that it's post 1975, when the NSN came in to use. 1240-99-963-2063, FSC "1240" is the Federal Supply Class for 'optical sights and range equipment', the "99" is the country code for the UK. The stock is notably shortened or what I'd call a sporter, but let me preface my observations with the fact that I know next to nothing about the Enfield.
The NSN on the box with the FSC of 1005 encompasses guns, "thru 30mm"
Looks entirely correct, though well-used; and the scope tin number may not match. The last one which sold on the same site went for a low price (if I recall, only Euros 3200), so this may also go for a bargain price.
thank you for your help
Has someone anything to add?
I know that the photos of the auction are at best passable, but I would be interested to get some opinions about the scope mount , and the scope itself. The front pad seems to have some dirt under it, or to be screwed on a shim (worse). Assuming I'll buy this unit, can it be fixed?
Thank for the help from the experts of this forum
I think it's just solder you can see. Front pads separate from the action quite commonly, and yours may have been re-soldered with the solder rather liberally applied. The worst case scenario is that you have to buy 3 (cheapish) replacement screws and re-solder the pad. It is perfectly simple to do, using an ordinary plumbers blow-torch and lead solder. Takes about 15 minutes to do.
Went for Euros 2,620, which is cheap. It seems to be the site to buy inexpensive L42A1s.
And to think that you could have had that for E2630 if you'd concentrated on it instead of questions about it that were academic..... You won't get one cheaper I feel..............
Very very cheap, Did anyone here get it? I bid on the other one that forum member, waco16 won (the one Rob mentions that went for 3200 euros)
Well someone got a bargain.........!
