M1903A3 Rehab project
I recently picked up a bubba'd 03A3 and began a pretty painless restoration of it. None of the barreled action metal was altered so all I need to do really is replace the stock. My question is this, I have leads on 2 replacement stocks, 1 is an original scant stock with use and character and all thesame cartouches as my current straightstock. I think it would blend in nicely with the barreled action which is lacking some of the original finish. My second choice is a NOS c stock by Keystone that is still in it's old 1940's box, no cartouhes and it looks new. The c looks awesome on a 1903 but being new I think it will look out of place. Lastly is cost, the scant is $125 with all the stock metal and hand guard, while the c stock is $199 with no metal and a hand guard. Which way would you all go?

I like C stocks. The price is right as well. Get the C stock.

I would re-stock it with a new-in-wrap S or C stock. No question.

It really depends on what your intentions for the rifle are. Are you going to shoot the heck out of it in VMR or whatever matches? Do you want a collectible rifle with as much value potential as possible? I've done them both ways, the C stock is the way to go if you want all the goodies for shooting it, but as far as effects on value,, I'd go with the S (assuming the rst of the rifle is in order). You can pick up C stocks all the time and the newer C's are getting better,, but the supply of S is dwindling and the prices are climbing. My answer,,,, buy both, rat hole the original (correct) S stock and fit the C for play time.
