Used to search once a day, now once a week, I think now I'm done..
The fake parts and bogus stories, overpriced junk and flat out crooks.
I'm sick of the whole business.

AND it's not even for an M1 carbine let alone WW2.
That is pretty funny.
I don't buy much from ebay anymore either. But once in a while if you look you will find something. I looked at a lot of houses and cars before buying too. All the hiden repairs or home owner repairs. I'm not giving up just yet.
That stuff is typical of gun shows too, but that hasn't scared us off yet...
Its not really ebay, or Gunbroker, or whatever. Its the people listing there. Unfortunately, the lying and cheating are simply reflections of the character of the sellers. You still find honest reliable sellers, but I admit it takes almost a sixth sense to pick them out.
I had to learn the ropes. Do your homework before buying anything, anywhere!GK
E-Bay story, I just got three G.I. slings, two D tip and one that had a D tip on one end and C tip on the other. They came with eleven tan medical pouches for $29.00 delivered. They were listed with Jeep parts, go figure, the add did not mention slings and I was the only bidder. Dirty but I think they will clean up nice.....Frank
Once they (I mean PayPal and Ebay) started withholding funds until the buyer received the item and said it was good-to-go by logging in I pretty much deep-sixed Ebay.
As a seller of good repute, I have not noticed any such action by PayPal. If my funds had ever been held waiting for buyers' feedback, I would not have received payment for half of what I have sold.
They withhold the payment if you're a new seller or low volume or sell infrequently like I do (did). But yeah the funds would be in my paypal held in escrow as it were, until the buyer would leave a positive feedback and then the funds would be released. I had one instance where I had a buyer receive it by traceable signature and for over a week wouldn't complete the sale. Really got me PO'd at them and the system. I sent a couple of emails to the buyer telling that they needed to complete the transaction, the the funds were being withheld and they took their sweet time. I mean, they could have beat the day lights out of it and then claim I scammed them and been out the goods AND the money.
Stay away from Ebay. Period! No further explanation required.
Good deals do pop up on ebay from time to time. In fact, I got a very nice forearm for my Enfield off ebay recently. You just need to know what you're looking for.
I use eBay a fair bit for buying small things in bulk, like bore brushes. Its also handy when you need something out of the ordinary. For example, I recently needed a single hessian sack. Ebay was the easiest way to buy it. For anything big I'll go to an actual shop.
I'll buy but NEVER again have I sold on EBay.
Gun shows are slightly worse. There are lots of so called honest people dumping their problem items onto unsuspecting people with a clear conscious. They ruin it and then seek relief by offing it onto some sucker.
The level of ignorance is amazing and ego gets in the way of learning. I NEVER ask anyone at a gunshow a question about anything beyond "Do you have??" People who go shopping without thoroughly knowing what they are looking for are sheep ready to slaughter and deserve their fate. Expecting Ebay to solve your ignorance is asking a lot. They have to scatter bread crumbs to find their office.
I will tell you a couple things because Ebay needs to be brought into the public eye just what trash they are.
I decided to maybe sell a couple things on there. I sold a few things and they withheld my payment through Paypal. Which they own now of course. They do not release the funds if you are a new member with less than 25 succesful transactions for 21 days after the sale. There is only one reason for this and one reason only. They can keep your money on interest for those 21 days and gain further from their GREEDY paractices. They also hold the shipping charged so you have to pay that out of your own pocket at the time and wait for the payment to clear to get reimbursed for shipping. If you do not offer Free shipping they charge you a percentage based on the amount of shipping you charged to ship a item. This tax for not offering free shipping goes right into their Bank account. What a damn farce and scam that is.
Who would believe a US based Company would ever dictate to a seller that he has to offer FREE shipping or pay a tax for not offering it.
They will do anything they can get away with to add another fee for whatever screwy idea they can come up. They Force you to take Paypal as a payment method and make it very difficult to take any other forms of payments. You used to be able to take personal checks and Money Orders but they found that there was no financial gain for them in those forms of payments so hence they forced everyone to use Paypal when they bought Paypal out so they could get the rediculous amount they charge for fees forcing you to use Paypal.. I could go on and on what a screwed up crooked, greedy Company they are but will stop at that. They have had and currently have several class action lawsuits against them for their practices..I let everyone know where ever I can can what crooks they have become..
Another thing they did. You can not as a seller no longer leave negative feedback for a deadbeat buyer that ignores you after the sale. That is just stupid. A buyer now can extort sellers by many means and as they know negative feedback cannot be left for them but they can leave it for a seller even if the transaction was satisfactorily followed through by the seller.
Will not even go into their anti Second Amendment policys.
It has gotten to the point in their greed that they are taking nearly 40% when you sell a item.
Thanks and Screw Them.
Note: I will supply a toll free number for anyone who wants to call them and verify all this is 100% true. You will be astounded after and while talking to these people just how stupid they are and the lack of any common sense or the ability to be reasoned with. They are completeley, well, Brain dead.
Carbineone, please leave the politics out of this. Thank you
Bill I will delete that small part.Sorry...Thanks
DONE
I think the point FTD1167 refers to is besides the repo/fake parts sellers, the price gets run up. Either by honest bidding and/or shill bidders, to more then what we consider a fair price for that item. Not necessarily ebay policy.
Let's not get our blood pressures up too high. Feelings have been expressed. It is obvious, a lot of members here do not like Ebay. Others still use it for buying and selling. For those who do not like it, there are other options, but maybe not with as much exposure. So make your personal choices.
As for their policy on cost and charges, you know that up front. Take that into consideration. I did read
"Earlier this week, a federal judge in the Northern California-based U.S. District Court, denied eBay's request to have the lawsuit dismissed."
Maybe that will develope into something down the road allowing easier alternate forms of payment. Time will tell.
Let's move on to something a bit less antagonistic. Like Carbines. :dancingbanana:
Jim
Well , on the brighter side , the seller in the OP posted my info on what he really had , so he looks to be honest .
Chris
Not that i don't agree with you, because I'm completely on your side on that point, BUT, in the sellers defense, in the description he states he has no idea what it is, and asks for info, plus, he posted the info he received. But like I said, on most eBay stuff I have to agree with you

Jim just one more note. I never initially agreed to alot of these silly rules and fees when I first signed up there. Most of this crazy stuff has been added long after I became a member there. I used to be able to accept other forms of paments and those are the rules I agreed to when I signed up. There were also no shipping fees when I signed up either. They make all this crap retroactive. These rules do not cover just new members. It like changing the rules in the middle of the ballgame..Thanks
