HELP! Need parts for my M38 folding bayonet.

About a week or two ago, while looking for a bayonet for my M38 short, I ran across a web site that had the latch release button for a Carcano folding bayonet. Unfortunately I did not save the link to favorites. Now that I have said folding bayonet which just happens to be missing the latch button I can't find the web site again.....and boy have I looked. I've been to all the usual sites and have found nothing. If there is anyone out there who has seen one and can point me in the right direction I would REALLY appreciate it. Below are pictures of whats missing. Thank you for any help you can provide.

OK. I guess it’s time to implement plan "B". I'm going build one from scratch. If there is anyone who owns a Carcano folding bayonet and would be willing to remove the latch button and associated parts and take a few close-up pictures and post them to this thread, I would be forever grateful. There are schematics on the internet. I've seen them. Try that first.

I've spent hours and hours over the last week or so searching the web for parts, pictures, or diagrams of the M38 folding bayonet. I've tried every different word combination I can think of and all I get is 20 or 30 pages of ebay, worthpoint, gunbroker and gunauction. I don't mean to whine but it’s been very frustrating. As I wrote at the beginning of this post I did run across a web site that had the catch I'm looking for, but at the time I wasn't looking for it. Life's a b***h and then you die......without the part you’re looking for I guess :crying: . I'll keep looking, but if someone could post some pictures that would be great. You don't happen to remember where you saw those schematics do you?

Just looking at your bayonet. It seems to me that you already have most of the information you need. Find a spring that fits, and all that's left is to deterine what the button looks like cosmetically. The shape of the catch is easy. Just measure the hole. Add a few thousandths clearance per side so it slides easily. File the retaining notch to fit by test fitting it to the rifle's underlug.

In high school I filed a lug to fit a bayonet. No powered equipment at all! Nor drawings. It's not pretty but it would work if I still had the bayonet. In actual fact I almost threw out that bit of Bubba work yesterday whilst reorganizing the reloading room. But I could do photos yet....

I tried to find them but didn't have any luck either. It was a few months ago that I ran across them when I was checking into a bayonet I was interested in.

If you goto view on your browser (IE) you can pull up a histroy which will show you most of th eplaces you visited if you have a rough idea when, could try that they are seried by date

I don't do IE and I don't allow my history to go longer than 5 days. Old computer can only hold so much data, already too slow as it is, it's a 2005 model.

Just got back from Santa's workshop ( a.k.a. my garage ) and here is the result. I took some play-do and filled the opening with it while the bayonet was on the bayonet lug. After it dried and hardened I pushed it out from the opposite side. This left me with the shape of the latch. Found a scrap piece of steel and started cutting, grinding and filing till I got the shape right. I ordered a latch button from Stoneman61 on e-bay for $10 ( don't need to reinvent the wheel if you don't have to ). I dipped the raw metal in battery acid to give it an aged look. It's now back on display with its brothers ( its in the middle on the first two pictures).
