Well here it is. Really low number (269,XXX) Inland mixmaster,, arsenal rebuild I guess. With IBM barrel. I'm tearing it down now. I wish there was more light when I took these pics:

Couple of things. The rotating safety sticks sometimes. Also, I can get the gas piston to spin, but it's not coming out any. I was going to get some pliers and see if it will come out. My other one flops around like nothing. I wonder if this is an issue. The recoil spring was only 9-3/4" and my recoil plate screw has about half of the threads pretty flattened and it was hard to turn. I hope the escucheon didn't cause that.

If the piston spins then don't worry about it as it's free and not stuck. It will move fine when you shoot the carbine. If the recoil plate screw is messed up then it's best to replace it. Easy and checp to find. The nut can be replaced easy enough and again not expensive. The safety sounds like it had a burr on it. Check it where the plunger rides in the safety as well as the edges of the safety. Make sure it is lubed too.

I do have another flip safety I can try in there. Thank you about the piston thing. It's staked really well and I don't really want to try and get it out if I don't need to. I'll get a new bolt. I heard the escucheons are hard to get out though and you could crack the stock. So I'd rather not do that either.

1st I agree with Bruce about your piston. I dap a little #9 on mine with a Q tip, after a few minutes of soaking I pull it back and forth with a light magnet.
The Bama Gang will tell you to just 'Shoot It'.
Do you know how to pull the Magcatch out? If so go ahead and do it and pull out/inspect/clean and lube the safety/magcatch plunger from behind the magcatch and the magcatch side spring and plunger.
Please Note: I never try to pull the Plunger Caps off these springs.
Some of these springs get junked up and bind on the safety and back of the magcatch. Some so dirty/grimey that it restricts the springs from compressing, causing binding. A few I've had to pull out using tweezers and a few others I've had to push out from inside a emptied trigger housing with the safety and catch removed. IMHO this is where the late added oil/lube/drain hole was a good idea. This would be the time to inspect the safety and back of the magcatch for any burrs like Bruce brought up. MHO more than likely you'll find the safety spring plunger junked up or the back side of the magcatch.... both pretty easy fixes.
As far as the Escutheon nut........ I wouldn't mess with the Escutheon nut just yet, unless a new recoil plate screw won't screw in, and even then I'd try chasing the threads first to avoid having to replace it.
But First try this...
When a oiled RCP Screw with good threads is laboring when trying to thread in...
I start the RCP screw in from the bottom part way. Then back it out and wire brush off the threads, then repeat a little at a time. Until I know the nut is clean from debris.
Repeat these same steps next by threading in from the top.

I like the stock. I have been looking for a nice one for a long time. I live about 20 minutes from where the Benica Aresenal used to be. Now it is rented out to small businesses.

Can't tell much from what's been shown, but the barrel is original finish. DO NOT USE PLIERS ON THE GAS PISTON. It'll move when you fire it. Get a new screw for the recoil plate. If you're lucky, the bad threads on the one you have haven't reamed out the ferrule. If you have to remove the ferrule, you'll have to relieve the stock so it can come out without breaking off any wood. Then you simply rig a puller and use the screw to ease it out from the bottom. Shoot spray lube into all parts except the gas piston and see if things like the safety don't loosen up. Really, it should be torn down, cleaned and oiled. You'll need a bolt tool, but in lieu of bolt disassembly you can soak it in solvent oil, working the parts to loosen up any crud in the extractor and ejector spring bores.

I've rebuilt the bolt on this one once already. So it was apart when we first got it several years ago. My bolt tool is nowhere to be found right now because I busted it. I may eventually get a new one if it struggles to run good this go around.
This stock is SUPER nice. Except it pulls my beard hairs. Although that's not the first wooden USGI stock to do that. Hehehhehe
Painter777, I really appreciate that. I'm going to order some springs though, and I'll probably order a recoil plate bolt at that time. But if I'm having a hard time sourcing one, I'll definitely PM you. That is way more than generous to offer, thank you.
Thanks guys on the tips. Hoppes #7 on the piston? Just a drop? I think I might have some of that. I had the safety out on my carbine once, and the mag catch, but I'm not entirely sure I remember how to do it. I can't find my AGI video either. Grrrrrrrrrrr....... I'll work on that this weekend probably. So the mag catch might be affecting the safety? It's not stuck, it just sticks SOMETIMES. It's weird. Sometimes I can't get it to stick, and other times it feels like it doesn't want to unstick. Not a good situation for shooting. Need to fix that.

The piston will work when the gas pressure hits it, then you can work dry-cleaning solvent (like Naptha) into the gas block around the piston. The system is really self-cleaning as long as you shoot only jacketed bullets. The piston and nut are best left alone as long as the gun cycles. The gas block is fragile and many have cracked when the nut was cross-threaded or over-tightened. If this happens, the barrel is ruined, which would be a particular shame with that new-looking IBM bbl.

Look for the stamped P proof on your barrel. More than likely under your bayo band.
Just curious as to the size of the P and font.
If you find a punch mark near the P, it was used on a NPM receiver when first issued.
BTW; What type of front sight is on it?

Look for small 'P' on top of the barrel possibly under the handguard or about 2" in front of the forward edge of the handguard. It actually looks like one in front of the front sight, but that's probably not it. Hey, that muzzle wear looks like a brand new barrel.

That hole allows for the drilling of the gas passage that extends up into the bore. It's supposed to be there! - Bob

For some reason I didn't remember seeing it on my other carbine. Not sure how I missed that. It's a bear getting old. Hehhehehe
