CMP-added parts

As far as I can tell, CMP does not change barrels or add barrels to existing receivers on any guns, but they do (or have done) add small parts or wood to guns in order to improve appearance or functionality, such as butt plate, bolt, trigger parts, etc. Is this a true statement?
Further, I gather that they re-park some/many/most/all of such parts, which are readily identifiable by their light gray color. True?
I ask because I have an HRA M1 that I got a number of years ago from DCM, before I was a "collector", that appears to be all correct with all HRA parts and LMR barrel, color of most is greenish- black except trigger housing (darker black), andthe butt plate, stock ferrule, rear swivel, trigger which are all the same light gray color.
When I got this, they only had the one grade- "luck of the draw"!
So what do we think I've got here?

repark/refinish no

your rifle sounds like an original/correct rifle with a normal variation of component part hue variations (many of which can be made by Sub-K's).

I am sure the CMP does not rebarrel receivers. They also don't repark any parts. They clean and replace parts that is all.

I bought a barreled receiver last month at the North Store, it had a (42) receiver w/bolt and a (55) SA barrel almost new.

I also purchased a CMP Special in 2010 at the NS, it had a (43) receiver and a new Criterion barrel. Both of these purchases were re-parked, what do you base your information on?

I guess he (and me) should have specified that this was for SERVICE grade rifles. The CMP Specials are complete re-do's. WHO does this FOR the CMP or whether they do it in house (which I doubt), I don't know..

The barreled receivers I suspect CAME to CMP already assembled and were found in the same stack of crates as everything else.

I called the South Store this morning and was told the following:

As for the CMP Special the parts are re-parked but they outsource that process, same for the receivers. However CMP armorers do install the new Criterion barrels as well as the barrels for the barreled receivers.

They do re-park but not in-house, they do install barrel's, hope this helps. I did not ask who they use for the out-sourcing.

There was a shop in Anniston that did a fair amount of refinishing for the CMP, went right by the place, but can't think of the name. As many loose barrels and receivers that were at the South Store, someone thereabouts must be capable of swapping barrels. But their rebuilding practices have varied over time.

speaking of parts...where can i get all the metal parts for the stock including front hand guard?
Been meaning to call CMP as they must have a source?
It's for 2 stocks that I would use to replace my original ones when I go to the range.

Same difference whether the parts are refinished in house or out sourced. They came from the CMP that way.

Thanks, but I'm not actually looking for any parts at all, just trying to add to my knowledge base. Some of these parts are so obviously a different color of park that they had to have been new replacements, and I'm just wondering by whom. Since there are no arsenal rebuild stamps in the wood, I surmise that it was done by the CMP or DCM facilities. But since they just sold off- the- rack rifles (or so I thought), it wouldn't have been done by them either. So it's a mystery. These light gray, almost white parts show littlle or no wear, btw, which again suggests post- issue replacements.

Quite a few of the 6 mil rifles CMP has just finished selling were rebarreled by CMP with new 1955 barrels.

The easiest way to spot a reparked rifle is that all the parts match in color & texture. ORIGINAL rifles were assembled from parts that were blued or parked in batches. Over the years parkerizing "recipes" have changed.

DCM never saw a rifle; it was just a DOD office in Washington, DC that processed paperwork. After approval of a purchase, the gun was shipped to the buyer directly from a government arsenal by Railway Express.

When CMP was originally established, most M1 rifles came straight from arsenals stacked in wood crates (hence, numerous op rod dings). They also got all the spare parts, which the armorers at CMP used to fix broken/defective rifles. When spare parts ran out, they cannibalized some rifles; they sold some rifles as "correct grade" if mostly original with some parts replaced. When stocks ran out, they sold "barreled actions". They eventually bought commercial stocks & barrels. Around 2008 they got a stash of several thousand Springfield Armory barrels, dated in the 1950's; these were used for rebuilds, & some barrels were sold to the public.

I've had several conversations with a couple of the gentlemen that sorted and repaired rifles for the North Store. They did not at that time, over 10 years ago, rebarrel or repark parts. they did sort them to grade clean and replace needed parts. Rifles to bad to repair themselves were stripped for parts.
Over the years much has been said about swapping out certain parts (trigger groups) so there were very few correct grade rifles. I asked them about this practice and they wouldn't give me a straight answer. I know one of them was the proud owner of several correct grade M1's and carbines.
