FAL ammo test

I took the FAL out and tested some ammo yesterday. This test was shot at 100 yards with iron sights, an 11 1/2 lb trigger, and 55 year old eyes. Better eyes would have better results. The ammo was five rounds of Indian NATO, Argentine NATO, WRA 68, three rounds of my handloads and three rounds of the FNM because that's all I had. I used my led sled for a rest. I shot the whole test at the same ShootnSee target so I transfered the holes to these targets so it wouldn't look so busy.

This test doesn't probably have a whole lot to do with anything but hopefully it will be a little entertainment for the troops.

Just a small point on this Guts. Your Trigger Mech Housing axis screw is 180 Degrees out of kilter. It SHOULD be in the opposite way round to what it is in your photograph! I know it's Pedantic, But it's an Armourers eye for detail!
In Brit Military Service, in the condition it is in now. It was a sure sign of 'Illegal Stripping'. That is to say, the 'User' it was issued to, had stripped it down further then he was permitted to in Service.

IE: If they were not Armourer trained, there was the possibility of: Losing small componants, Incorrect assembly with the potential for a lethal result to some unfortunate! Or 'Tampering' with the internal mech in an extremely stupid move to get the rilfe to full-auto! (Uncontrolable continuous Full-Auto firing with damaging/lethal Results!) I am VERY confident that Peter & Skippy have been involved like myself. In sorting this 'Misdemeanor' MANY Times in service!..........;)

It sucks to get caught being dumb. I have done my pushups and corrected the infraction!

Strange...we taught this as detailed stripping. A user conducted service of the rifle for detailed cleaning. We had no issues with lost parts...

Yes Australian Army we were taught to field strip the whole thing apart, nice pick up on teh screw though. Of course the match under the sear always puts them on full auto.

Maybe someone could resurrect the thread about the matchstick myth.

I never had any luck with the matchstick...found it to make them unserviceable. I just converted mine instead. Good thing Peter never inspected it, I'd have been for the hi-jump...

With a little more concentration would be the group probably even tighter - definitely without flyer.

Newly i tested some German surplus (MEN Ni-plated, berdan) - the group was slightly larger, but still 10.

Whats this match stick myth y'all are going on about.

A paper match stick placed under the sear nose would cause the rifle to fire full auto. Sometimes...or just pack it in most of the time. There's a whole thread here on this somewhere...

I say........... BADLY and SADLY INcorrect Aussie. They are all made to exactly the same spec to ensure interchangeability and it does work on the UK and Australian made L1's. I was there! The problem was that even if you tried it, an actual matchstick was too thick so you had to pare it down a bit..., then try again and even then, due to the operation of the mechanism against the and the...., it'd drop out after a few rounds and it would ONLY operate in the auto role while the match was in place anyway. And the average crunchie was not permitted to dtrip the trigger mech anyway......... that's why the change lever was retained with a split pin. So pray tell me, how do you get the remainder OUT to carry out this little wheeze while the change lever is still partially retained?

I could go oin and on......... Matt the gun guy, you're right. The match COULD work but generally speaking, it's an urban myth passed on among the, well, what's the word I'm looking for? And these clowns also forget to tell you that the trigger plunger and spring and ......... and............ and........

I might have missed something in my very limited experience with these rifles but someone will need to remind me.
