With a little spare time, I collated the information on the Enforcers from the sticky above into PDF format. At some point I will get it arranged by serial number, low to high. Here is what I have so far. I hope that it will help aid others interested in the Enforcers. BTW, many thanks to Simon, without who's help we would not have this information.

I had 411 - sold to South Lanarkshire (scotland) police I think originally.

Rather than Police departments, they are Constabularies. I note non have been noted for Lancashire and 2 for Cumberland, the first having no date but the second on 08/74 which is odd as Cumberland and Westmorland had become Cumbria in that year. I also asked my father if he remembered them or what happened to them but he only remembers having rifles donated by the general public. His good friend from the force was issued with SMLEs and Enfield/Webley .38s.
One for sale at them moment, I've mentioned it on the forum before.
.22 Enfield Enforcer. Serial number 727. (back from proof)
This unusual Enfield Enforcer action based rifle has a pupose built .22 Enfield barrel and bolt fitted, with military marks on the barrel and action and a new current Birmingham proof.
The .22 barrel and bolt is unique to this action and is not seen on other converted .22 Enfield No4 rifles.
The side of the action has the usual marks " Enforcer 7.62m/m 727
D/E (together) 80 PAT.APP.FOR"
It is fitted with target sights PH 5E4 and a Pecar scope.
This rifle could be converted back to 7.62 with the correct bolt and barrel.

Enfield Enforcer 7.62mm Police Sniper Rifle, Patent no 73. This is serial number 008 with matching bolt. Around 767 of these rifles were ever made. As many as 50% or more have now been destroyed. Police forces often preferring to do this rather than sell them off. This particular rifle was issued to a division of the Metropolitan Police and is marked 19T on both rifle and bolt. It is quite plausible, that this actual rifle was deployed during the 1980 Iranian Embassy siege. The rifle is also broad arrow marked, this indicates that this early example was made using military parts. A very interesting and collectable rifle, worthy of some further research. It is live an requires a firearms certificate with the correct variation to purchase.

I've had about 10 others, but don't have my records with me. I also have numbered woodwork parts in the 2xx range from about 5 rifles in the guillotined D&C batch - aka "phoenix Enforcers"....
I know that the D&C stated on inquiry that they had destroyed all their Enforcers, but the documentation provided only states a few by serial number. So, with the "phoneix Enforcers" term......are you stating hat ALL D&C Enforcers are made up rifles, or only the ones in the 2xx batch or?Quote:

Perhaps Mr tlvaughn could also post the info as listed by date delivered, I believe that would be interesting as well.
As far as D&C rifles go, it may well be that they disposed of them in several batches, and that one or more batches have survived to go to new homes. However, there are/were sufficient pieces of numbered woodwork around (including attached bands and triggerguards, incidentally) to strongly indicate that at least half a dozen rifles were cut up. Given that I only have some of the wood that became available, I'm sure quite a few rifles were cut.
My woodsets are mixed up, with numbers from several rifles represented. I have seen one "Enforcer" that appears to have the genuine numbered forend that matches a handguard and butt in my stock. Given that that rifle did not have what i regard as authentic numbering on the bolt, magazine and receiver, I can only assume that that rifle was "recreated" to match the genuine forend. I may be wrong, of course, but...

Matching & in Very Good Order.
This is one of the Enfield Enforcer rifles purchased by the Devon & Cornwall constabulary.
There were around 767 manufactured by Enfield, not all were assembled.
A number of parts including a few receivers were sold off to Charnwood Ordnance, who assembled them in to complete rifles & sold them on the civilian market.
Police forces purchased Enforcers depending on their budgets at the time; some purchased complete kits including target sights & Pecar scopes,
other purchased basic rifles, and then purchased the scopes etc as their budgets allowed.
A few original Enforcers were surplused in the late 1990s the rest approximately 50% were destroyed by the individual Police Forces.
This is a Genuine Police Issued Enfield Enforcer serial number 175; it is matching on the action, bolt & magazine. It is fitted with a Harris bipod and correct Parker Hale 5A target sight
that required the modified safety.
Sadly it does not have its original scope which would have been a Pecar Variable 4-10 x45. When this rifle came in it was fitted with a scope mount that fitted in place of the rear military back sight, no target sight and the Harris bipod was missing. I have fitted the correct target sight & Harris bipod to bring it back to the Enforcer Specification. The butt recoil pad is a replacement,
the barrel is original as it bears the “Patent Applied for” mark only found on genuine Enforcers and the bore is in good condition.

The Club's new 7.62mm long range rifle
The club's Enfield Enforcer (serial number 477) saw a lot of use even before we bought it, and the 26" barrel was well worn. Just how worn was revealed when I pushed a tight-fitting patch down the bore and it didn't start to rotate until it had gone 17 inches! Examination with a bore scope revealed that there was virtually no rifling for at least a foot. The rifle continued to shoot well enough until suddenly one day it's 'groups' opened up to two feet! The question rose: could we get it rebarelled?
The Enfield Enforcer is basically an Enfield No 4 action with a heavy 7.62mm NATO barrel and a sporter type butt stock. It was marketed as a police sniper rilfe and only 700 were made. Also made during the same period were the L42 and the L39 army sniper and target rifles respectively. The civilian version of the army's L39 was called the Envoy. The hammer forged barrels were made by Heckler & Koch and 10,000 barrels were made. Around 8,000 barrels were used on and as spares for the L42 and L39 rifles, 700 on the Enforcer and I don't know how many on Envoys, but not many were left to use as replacements for Enforcers and Envoys. Suffice to say that hen's teeth are more readily available. After 18 months of searching, I did find an Enforcer barrel. Fultons had recently acquired one, but it wasn't for sale. They offered us £400 for our Enforcer, clearly intending to mate their barrel with our action. £400 was a fair price. We took the money.

Please add serial number 547 to the list. It was sent to North Ireland RUC on March 24, 1977. I bought it from Rex Applelton (sp?) in Va. years ago when he brought in three or four of them. It has a Pecar scope mounted.

Didnt Sussex Police have Envoys set up to the same spec as Enforcers?
Geoff Hart's gun register has an entry for 14/4/1982 for Two 7.62mm sniper rifles from Police HQ Cheltenham Gloucester, No's 001 & 184.
They were both signed back to police HQ on the 30/4/1982.
My assumption is that they were both Enforcers but I have no evidence to support this.
Another can be added to the list. It is alive and well: No.545 which I understand was manufactured in 1976 and shipped to the Devon & Cornwall Police on 07.11.1979.
I have had 150 & 175, and stil have 208

"Enforcer #104 was collected by South Wales Police on 26th April 1974 - one of a batch of 12 they collected on that date. Dyfed Powys collected 10 and Gwent Police collected 4 on the same date."
I also know the whereabouts of #102 which currently lives not too far away from me, but do not know anything about it's history.

I currently own Enforcer No476 Which I purchased from 'Practical weaponry' in Stoke more than 20 years ago, she has matching bolt and mag and numbered pecar scope as well as twin zero sight, when I bought 476 the seller assured me that it once belonged to Staffs police so I submitted a freedom of information request to them and they flatly denied any knowledge of 476, however I have since found out that they did indeed buy 476, they also admitted that they currently still have Enforcer No 201 which they use for tactical and sniping sic excecises, unfortunately they have fitted an L42 type stock to their rifle. Lets hope that when they finally retire 201 that they have the decency to donate her to the national firearms collection in respect of her historical importance rather than chop her up to satisfy their rabid hatred of shooting and desire to protect their image.

Incidentally I only have one numbered mag for 476, my spare mag is an origonal Stirling 7.62 mag so if anyone has a mag marked 476. I would be reasonably interested in reuniting them as Staffs Police say they currently have no spare 7.62 mags, they must be out there somewhere?
Hi Stewie - so far as I'm aware the enforcers only normally came with one numbered mag - any ones which have more are generally believed to have been marked up after they, er, passed into civilian hands.
How underhand, I can't believe that anyone would do such a thing! I heard a rumur that someone has obtained some of Charnwoods tooling and will be manufacturing new barrels and magazines in the near future? Has anyone else heard this?
I have 644, its in great condition and shoots very well. it is one of the D&C issued rifles that was suposedly chopped and has not been banged together from parts, I am 100% sure its a genuine item.:p
I have No 329 which was collected by Devon and Cornwall on 7/2/1974.
When Mark Stevens provided me with this info he said the Enforcers were issued without bipods or slings, which were added later, if required.
The rifle came to me with Pecar Nr 92980 but I suspect this was not its original scope as an early forum thread by Alan de Enfield included the following:-
"The rifles were fitted with 'Pecar variable 4 - 10' telescopic sights. The only records available are serial Nos. A10382, A06532 and 72647 / 329."
If anyone has Pecar Nr 72647 I would be interested in hearing from them!!

If any ones interested I have just had in; Enfield Enforcer No's 089 & 295
I have 354 ex-Northanptonshire Constabulary. Complete with its (numbered to the rifle) commercial transit case, PH sights Pecar scope and the original laminated typed instruction card issued by Northamptonshire Constabulary. I bought it in the '90's when it was sold off. Shoots perfectly and is in excellent untouched condition. When I get time I will post some pictures.
