Assembling an M1 carbine

I have 3 military rifles from other countries and thought I should start getting some from my own country. While I wait for a 1866 50-70 to become available in my price range I thought a M1 30 carbine would be nice. I'm wanting to build a parts gun and having a hard time finding a receiver at a reasonable price. I know building a gun from parts will not have much value in the market and probably cost more then just buying an new one. I was hoping to build it from older parts for the most part. I just started buying parts so thanks for your help! J.W.

J.W.welcome to the forum! Try Gun Broker, I've bought both recievers and barreled reciever there. Just be patiant, the people here will help out if you have any questions. (Good group of carbine "nuts".)

They don't get much older then original parts. :rofl: In this case older doesn't mean cheaper.

All parts are findable, cost will vary by type and markings. The barrel and receiver will be the hardest to obtain. In the end it might cost you more to build a parts carbine then finding a complete one.

Some find the fun is in the hunt.

I have mostly Inland and Quality stuff so far and I'm just getting started. I really need a receiver or barreled receiver. Thats the hardest to find. Panning for gold may be easier! LOL! thanks JW :)

I have a big pile of spare parts myself but no spare bbls or recievers . Last year or the year before a company came to one of our local gunshows with a bunch of the demilled bbls which he had shortened and recrowned , put an imported type 1 band and remounted a opened up front sight . Thought about mounting it in a reciever and dropping it into a folding stock copy to build another carbine as a PDW type. Throw it into a cut down paratroopers case copy . Been looking for a mint loose reciever as it has to be good due to the $200 tax stamp to register it as a SBR . Have had no luck till this last SAR show. Several venders in the yellow building were selling as new USGI recievers. Pick up a mint late Inland for the build after I recieve the paperwork back ( about 9+ months now ) . Anyway , a batch of these must have just surfaced as they went from none to scads .

I would rather feed the hobby this way. Sure, I've sold a lot of parts but it is nice to see hobby buddies get stuff they need without having to toss a load of dough out there. Glad to help!!! :D

As for your question.
Are you meaning an original GI rear sight tool, or an aftermarket version? The reason I ask is there would be a considerable price difference between the two.

We have a classified section up it the tool bar. There you can see what others are offering for sale/trade. You can also put in a WTB (want to buy) post, asking for an item.

Sometimes I've seen originals on Ebay.

There are also venders that sell original, and aftermarket tools. Here is an aftermarket one I saw M1 Carbine Rear Sight Install and Removal Tool M1 M 1 | eBay

I don't believe there is an issue sending a tool to Belgium. But you might want to check with your local area to find out.

Thank you for the answer.
There will be no problem to send the tool to Belgium.
I saw the article on ebay, this is the tool manufactured by Fulton-Armory.
This of course depends on the price, but it is obvious that I prefer an original M1 carbine rear sight tool, but so far I can not find.
I collect mostly U.S. equipment, living in a region where was stopped the battle of the bulge.

The originals are few and far between and when you do find one they are very expensive. Good luck on finding one and I hope it's an original one for you.

I sold one a couple years ago for $275, I'm sure they are higher now.
