Looks like they've camouflaged their leggings and helmets? And maybe clothing. It's hard to see on my phone. But looks like paint splotches.

Yes it does. As for the rest...a tactical update in the middle of an operation...
I read they did that in haste when reading "Ghost Mountain Boys" in New Guinea. They described putting the uniforms back on with the dye still wet...
This is one of those rare photos that just reaches out and grabs you in . You just want to know more.

i saw this on a thread somewhere having to do with why the policy was you aren't supposed to sharpen a bayonet.
A dull bayonet does more damage.
The guy at top left demonstrates why this is a smart policy.

Swords blades were not supposed to be sharpened as when a blow was struck, if the blade was sharp it could imbed in a bone and be hard to withdraw. Same reason why bayonets shouldn't be sharpened and also it could prevent further entry. Ray
Jim, I think if you check the edge of most bayonets you will find that the blade edge does not come to a cutting knife sharpness but has a small flat ground along it's edge. Maybe the new ones do come to a knife sharpness but at least the bayonets I'm familar with have that flat. Ray
