Help with Mircrometer sight please

I am a new member.
I enjoy a Savage No. 4, Mk. I* I picked up a while ago.
It is a 59Cxxxx SN rifle which I believe is from 1943.

It shoot about several inches low and to the left with the 2 position flip peep it came with.
The only options for sight adjustments appeared to be different height front sight posts and drifting.
I obtained and installed a mircrometer rear sight.

I do not have any information regarding how to properly adjust this sight.
I also would be interested to know if there is a better option for an adjustable sight.

FORESIGHT INTO the error
BACKSIGHT OUT OF the error

If your shots are LOW, then LOWER the foresight or RAISE the backsight and vice verca
If your shots are LEFT, then, move the foresight LEFT or move the backsight RIGHT

I am getting at the sight itself.
It was labeled micrometer adjustable sight.
I thought it was adjustable for windage and elevation.

The dial adjusts the secondary peep for elevation.
But for the main sight and windage am I missing something?

Ramair3: Zeroing is accomplished via different heigths of blades and lateral positioning of blade in foresight band. Once zeroed the "micrometer" (calibrated for the cartridge) is set at the estimated range. As you surmise, there is no windage adjustment on the sight. Moving the front blade laterally for zeroing requires different approaches depending upon whether you have Mk1 or Mk2 band. You should order a "British Enfield Rifles- Vol 2" by Stratton as a minimum reference library on No.'s 4 and 5 rifles.

Ramair3, you'll have to elaborate because either me or Ridolpho have got something amiss........ You say that the sight you HAD is a two position flip-over sight. You have changed this for a micrometer sight. Correct?

What micrometer sight do you have. Most micrometer sights that we know of have range AND deflection adjustment facility built in.

Are you saying that you have fitted a bog standard No4 rifle range adjustable backsight that goes from 2 to 1300 yards? If so, that isn't a micrometer sight. It's just a Mk1 adjustable backsight

Ridolpho is right about the books too. If you're going to shoot an Enfield, you need to read up some first

The rifle came with this rear sight.

I shot at about 7 O'clock from point of aim, about ten inches, at 100 yards.
From reading, it said my options were to change front sight blade heights and drift, at least for the ammo sighted in.

The other option was a rear adjustable sight.
I went with this option as I could adjust easily if I changed ammo/loads.

It was advertised as an elevation and windage adjustable rear sight.
But it appears only the secondary peep is adjustable for elevation.

My goal is to be able to adjust point of impact without changing the front sight blades or position.

You have 2 reasons to send this back to the seller, if you can:
first, this sight is not windage adjustable (and nor is the No 4 rear sight)
second because it should be calibrated up to 1300 yds - this is (I think) a No 5 jungle carbine sight, calibrated to 800 yds.

Springfield Sporters have the No 4 rear sight for $25 or they come up on ebay.

The sight you have on the rear is for a No.5 Mk.I (Jungle Carbine)... It is not correct for your no.4 rifle
There is no windage adjustment on the No.5 sight nor is there windage adjustment on the No.4 sight unless you go to a target grade sight.

Also your carbine sight will not go up in one minute steps and you will go crazy trying to keep up with the math.

Ramairthree: A lot of people seem to refer to these standard folding rear sights as "micrometer" (not correct terminology as Peter L. pointed out) and I was only guessing that you were referring to the standard model. If you plan to do a bit of target shooting you might want to purchase an actual target sight which will certainly have windage adjustment. Here's a picture of my Longbranch with Parker hale sight. Easy to attach (or remove) and works extremely well with my nearsighted 55 year old eyeballs. In any case, enjoy the rifle.
