Surplus M2 Bullets?

The white boxes in this picture are all marked .30M2 and have the drawing number, contract number and W.R.A. lot number on them. Could these be surplus bullets? Can anyone tell me anything about them?

Without being able to read the writing on the boxes, or the headstamp, I doubt that we can tell you anything.

I have a few similar boxes from both Frankford Arsenal and Lake City. Bullets were packaged in these for sale through the DCM as reloading components. If yours look something like these, that's what you have.

In spite of the hand written "172 Gr.", the box contains 150gr. M2 Ball bullets.

They were sold through the DCM many years ago. THey are match quality and the same bullet that is in the M118 match ammo.

On the white box bullets, the number starting with 1305 is the stock nimber for the 30M72 bullet used when loading 30-06 and 7.62mm Match and National match ammo in the 1960's.
The brown colored box is marked 30M2 and is marked as being produced by Frankfort Arsenal and is dated 1949. Since it marked "caliber 30M2" I believe tht it contains the 150 grain 30M2 flatbased service bullet. I do not think that the Ordnance department started manufacturing the 172 grain match bullet after the WWII until about 1952 or 1953 when Frankfort started developi9ng some ammmo for the Internatuional matches. Some one has marked 172 GR in magic marker on the box, but that contradicts the arsenal marking which I believe would be correc if the package is unopened.

Musketshooter...I have a feeling that you were looking at the wrong picture as well.

I looked at the pictures that I believe tht you posted. The large collection of "whit": box bullets are marked "M2" so I believe that they are M2 buullets manufactured by Winchester. Winchester manufactured a large amount of ammunition during WWII and therefter. The comercial bullets are of mixed anufacture and I cannot read the cfaliber or weight. The M2 bullets should work if you handload or sell for a fair price for some one who needs them.
I see that the original poster of the pictures I firs adress, indicated that the brown bvox bullets wee M2's.

You might look here.
No M2 Ball projectiles, but they have 147gr. M80 bullets, and M2AP bullets.....pricey as they are.

Pat's Reloading - Prices

I used to see M2 bullets all of the time from Weidners. $15.00 per 100 bullets. Made by Privi and Ok. They also make a 172gr. M72 clone and again, OK. Sierra/Hornandy/Nosler make fine bullets these days.
