The rifle shown in the virtual tour is correctly serial number matched and in addition, is equipped with a very rare Flanders Flap. This flap was designed to keep the mud out of the barrel, but was spring mounted so it could easily be opened, or flip out of the way if the soldier accidentally discharged his rifle without opening it.

They were 25 P a poke at a little shop in London way back. The owner of the tiny gun shop in London used to let me dig in the boxes of odds and ends he had under the counter. If we only a time machine. Ironic, it was a little shop and his name was Mr. Little as well.

The one I had was made by Hinkswell & Co, sadly now sold to fund an Accuracy International to do more more shooting......so not all bad!
An example turned up in a tabacco tin at the Bisley Trafalgar meeting about 8 years ago, the tin contained some P-H sight parts which were required for a project. The lad who was looking at it saw the potential in the sight parts and paid, IIRC £25 for the whole tin which also contained sight screws etc.
It was only later when people were comparing their purchases that somebody correctly identified what the item was for the lad.
In truth its an item that rarely gets seen, the one I purchased came from the late Pete Bloom who was selling his collection due to illness.
It's odd that I just read this post today and I also just received a book I ordered "dominating the enemy, war in the trenches 1914-18" and there is a chapter called Mud and Wire. One of the first items is spring clip muzzle cap.
Even more interesting is the no1 mk 2 wire cutters that attach to the muzzle of the rifle. Anyone have one of those in their collection?
