A USMC Carbine with provenance:

My friend Colonel Stratton (Major at the time) purchased several weapons from the Marine Corps, this one a 7-43 Underwood, as you can see purchased in 1949 for $31.26! Only upgrade appears to be the adjustable sight, muzzle just a tick over 1.0, original stock with cartouche and 'S-HB/flaming bomb' in sling well. In a senior moment I shot a four round 2 MOA today. He was a Camp Perry shooter, perhaps he picked this carbine for a reason. Thought you might enjoy. Semper Fi, Don

I stand corrected. While the barrel is a 7-43 Underwood the receiver/SN is Standard Products. Thanks Tuna from the CSP forum.

One source says built around 8-43.

Nice to have some paperwork. It would be nicer to have more pictures.

Sorry Jim, didn't take a lot of photos as thought uniqueness was that it was purchased from the Corps in 1949, well before the DCM release. I wasn't aware an Officer could purchase a weapon in inventory. I have no history of what the Colonel did to the carbine after the purchase, nor of course any Marine Corps modifications before he acquired it. Semper Fi, Don

That looks nice. Very nice.
Right around the range for the start of adj sight. If I had to be picky, I don't know about the checkered safety, I don't think they used them. The type lV mag catch appears to have been changed. He must have wanted to use a 30 round mag.

Is he still alive? Have you taken it apart? Curious as to the markings on the internals too. And the oiler and sling marking.

We lost the Colonel several years ago, so many WW11 heros are departing. I'm leaving Arizona until next winter, will take it apart in October. S/F, Don

Robert Yates Stratton, two Bronze Stars, Pacific Campaign, 'Polar Bear' Brigade in Iceland before Pearl Harbor, then off to Pacific. Weapons Company Commander, Regular Marine (as opposed to Reserve). That is a nice Standard Products made about Sept. 1943. I would not be surprised if he didn't make the modifications himself to make it more to his taste. Like the adjustable rear sight, the magazine release and the safety of which none were on the carbine when it was made. But it did not go through a full rebuild so I think he may have or had it done.
