Just got this November 1941 M1 Garand yesterday and she sure is gorgeous. However someone has mentioned to me the cartouches may be fake. They seem to be the right type and size and I even went through the thread on fake vs legit ones. Everything seems fine to me, is it just wishful thinking?

I have one just a few numbers lower and it's not nearly so defined after 70 years, and I've had it since '76. We could use a photo expose' of the whole rifle though...(you'll get a definite answer on this shortly)
Absolutely 100% real. As for determining these new , old, double stamp and so on means nothing at all. Being an exact stamp is all that counts. The on e I am comparing it to is even deeper and nicer and real. I have others that are even deeper and better than both of these. Rick B

I'm sure rick is more expert than most, but to me the two S's look off and the crossed canons are wrong at the muzzles and there is an uncharacteristic field impression around the stamp as commonly seen on some repro stamps. YMMV.
Attachment 44115This was done around the late 1980's in Utah when the fakers in Rahway and Stone Mountain were still amateurs. Also WRA WB stocks were faked with cartouches in Utah at that time too.Attachment 44114

One thing to remember when looking at a rifle is to look at the whole. If everything on the rifle looks consistent in quality and condition, finish is original, etc. there is a good chance that the rifle and cartouche are original. Look at the forest as well as the tree.
A complete set of pics of this rifle would be nice. It appears to be an exceptional example. What we can see is a super nice original looking receiver, finish and serial number. To see such a nice stock and cartouche on a nice original condition original finish rifle would not be a huge surprise.
I'm sorry Rick, but now you've lost me with the Mix´nMatch photos. In the last post, what is genuine and what is fake?

CanadaCollector, I can't quite make out your bolt heat lot. Is it -2SA RE4D?
Also, more importantly, is your stock long channel with the dimple in the stock ferrule? The dimple is a small punch that does not pierce the metal of the ferrule.
Could you post a pic showing the throat and the ferrule? Also, a pic of the receiver heat lot? Thanks.
Is the follower marked with an 8 in the center?

While the crossed cannons are weak, this stock is an example of a SHORT channel stock with LARGE crossed cannons. Rick has already confirmed that it is not a fake.

The bolt heat lot reads: -2SA RE4D
I just took appart my Garand to check and it does have the long channel with the dimple in the ferrule.
As for the 8 on the centre of the follower, I didnt see one on the top but there is one on the bottom of it...I take it this is what you meant?
Any reason for the specific questions? Just curious.
