Wouldn't that TH with the hole be a Type 5? Sure looks nice to me! Can you show a close up of the rear sight staking? - I'd like to compare to my 5.4 Inland. Thanks! - Bob

is two circular punches in the two points (rear) used in the milled sight. Some had square staking, some had circular. Type 3 (stamped) sights would have one at the back and one at the front.

USGI....the trigger housing would technically be a modified type 3. Those lube holes were often drilled in the housings during rebuilds. The giveaway is the position of the Inland logo. By the time the hole was being drilled in the housings as a standard operation, the logo would have been stamped in an upside-down position. (near the end of production)

According to the CC #361 the oil hole was first encountered before this example and was in almost full use about the same time as this example (purposely being vague to preserve copyrights). I thought that the upside down Inland was only used with the M2 housings?

USGI: In a Winchester this trigger housing would be called a type 5 (I own one). Probably because Winchester never used any fabricated THs.

I probably should have started a new thread with this question, but the carbine I'm writing about is almost a twin to Dave's. My local gun shop just took in an Inland S/N 5,459,6XX and I spent quite a bit of time studying it yesterday. It has the same "late Win" style buttplate, and about the only thing I question other than that is the Type 2 barrel band. The band has only (1) "slash" mark and it's down low on the left side. One source I have says that should be for a Rock-ola. It really doesn't look like the front sight has ever been off, but I could be mistaken. Has anyone ever heard of Inland using this barrel band? My American Swiss mark is only partially struck and very hard to see. There were also many unmarked bands used.

No, the stamping looks OK. I found a picture of an identical Type 2 band posted by member Matteo last July. The band marking on the 5.4 Inland I saw looks exactly like Matteo's. - Bob

You will see that there isn't a problem with this band on a 5.4 Inland. It is the most comprehensive report I've ever seen and will answer any questions you may have.
I would also ask myself the question; why would someone put a $250 Rockola band on a common Inland?

Sounds like the carbine I've been looking at is correct and probably original. I thought there might have been a hint of a Type 3 band mark on the barrel, and that someone had possibly switched it back to Type 2 - The front sight and pin, etc. look nearly perfect, though. Like yours, it has the TH with the hole on the left side, and a PI marked Type 2 rear sight with correct staking. Thanks! - Bob
