Good old Georgie is at it again! Wow, that looks horrible. One thing though, at least he actually says it's a "new production" and not trying to sell it as an original. It would be interesting to see what other markings are on it. Being a commercial product wouldn't it need the true manufacturer's information stamped on it?

They had a booth setup at the Fun show yesterday. "New" O3A3's also for IIRC $800.00 they are nice almost too nice..
Well say what you will, they might be awfully expensive but I'd have one just because it's basicly USGI and I could shoot it without concern. It'd probably work perfectly and except for the sling and pouch pictured, would look great.

George Liakos. He owns Riverbank Armory and is world renown for reproduction M1 carbine parts. He has been the subject of many threads on this and other sites.

I'm pretty sure that is a 'K' that is too close to the 'C' and so slightly upset. I don't see anything wrong with selling these receivers with the obvious non-WWII serial numbers and stating they are 'new production'. I think the James River carbine is a little pricey. Are these manufactured by the people who do Fulton Armory's ? I am thinking of making a WWII repro carbine. With all the "early" parts being manufactured it would be a neat "trunk" gun.
I looked at the James River page. They make and mark those receivers Rockola. Looked like serial number 13 in their picture, cost $369 just for the receiver. $1195 for the complete carbine with type 3 band and adj sight.
A WW2 carbine in shooter condition would be a whole lot less money for a "trunk gun" then building one up from repo parts. And you would have the real thing.
But that's just one person's opinion.
Almost every Sunday JR is at the range test firing the carbines for function and accuracy. They fire a full mag rapidly and mark any that malfunctions. The owner said GI parts now cost and arm and a leg and that's the reason for high price. I have never purchased anything from JR just relaying my findings to the reader.
From a pure strength standpoint they are probably better than these modern made units. The receiver is not much of a problem part, extractors, slides, barrels all wear out. But they would wear just as bad on one of these put together units made by James River. A 68 year old weapon is just as good as when it was made and the US Government made very sure that all parts were made of the correct steel and to exact tolerances. I doubt if the same thing can be said for some put together unit using used parts of varying quality. They may look beautiful but that isn't a guarantee that they are up to par with the genuine article.

For Dave and Bill, I think you read me wrong. I've had about 25 different GI carbines and only about five civilian models. I shot the pi** out of the GI models. I have no respect for the civilian ones at all. They can be had. These new ones are disposable. I'd shoot them silver and throw them away. The GI model would be kept with reverence. We can't get them up here. Not any more.
Don't chastise me unless you know for sure what I mean. I re-read my post and still don't think it reads the way Dave appears to believe.

You only said you'd have one, not that you preferred it over GI. If it was less money then a shooter I might consider one as a beater too.
I don't think anyone is chastising anyone else. Seems we all just think GI is a better, cheaper and as reliable choice.
Heck, I have a Liberator pistol. At one time I had two of them. Talk about a cheaply made GI pick of junk. But it will serve it's intended application, for at least 18 rounds anyway. That's when my other one broke all the welds and turned into pieces. There are times when GI is not the best choice. Then again it was made as a throw a way piece.
Jim, was it a repo or the real deal Liberator? Bummer either way. They were a novel idea weren't they, a gun to get a gun.
Of course GI is better. I'd just have taken this one because shooting it won't damage what's a collectors gun around here. A GI costs about twice that around me. We don't have the US market to choose from.Quote:

Jim, no chastising from me. I didn't misunderstand your post either. Just think the GI is a better choice. It is a shame you are limited in your area. A person who loves military weaponry as much as you do should be able to get anything you want. Hell, we all should be able to what we want ;)

Sorry Jim, sometimes the written word loses out when it enters the danger zone of my brain. I read your post as opining for a put together w/commercial receiver as a shooter over a genuine carbine. As in you could shoot it without concern.

I have seen times I would love to sneek into the "Great White North" for a FTF trade (one of my IBMs for a nice SVT40). I have had 3 offers for this, it gets harder and harder with each one. ;)
I have an LL M1 that I had an offer on while we had registration...I had to refuse and then the offer dried up. I'd jump on it like a dog on a bee if it happened now.

I believe that James River Armory is still located in a warehouse complex in Arbutus, a suburb of Baltimore, Maryland. I didn't see much definitive information on their website.
I don't know who makes receivers for them, they don't see anxious to discuss that. It may or may not be the company that makes receivers for Fulton Armory (located 15 miles away in Savage, MD), which doesn't like to discuss their suppliers, either.

i was wondering if a newbie might prevail upon the old hands here for some advice. it seems there are a lot of unscrupulous parts dealers out there and it's hard to tell what's what. would it be possible to get recommendations for the more reliable people in the business? i know about bill ricca from reading here, are there others?

Check out CMP forums, there you can check on sellers and read reviews from buyers
Eddie is good. There are a lot of good sellers out there.
But I always advise newbies against trusting any seller ratings on CMP. There are 10% or so who are the unscrupulous ones and they even have acquaintances there who will publicly support them as worthy when they are not. Ratings are not honest for these sellers because nobody wants to have retaliatory negative feedback from them. You have to be very careful.
i also saw that in this months SGN i would not mind owning one of the springfield bolts he redoes , but if i buy an M1 carbine , its got to be real , especially @ 1250.00, and i like my winchester m1 carbine i already have , what i dont have and have always wanted is an 03 springfield. And he does have some listed look darn good as my man above said , still want 1.redone 03 i could deal with , copy m1 i have no need for.

It is a book published on the FP 45 Liberator. Hard to find many years ago. If I recall it was $65 back then. Hardcover 8 1/2" x 5 1/2". Talks about design, production, operation, supposed distribution, has a picture of the instructions. Stuff like that.
I went to the Springfield Armory a couple years ago. They had one on display.
