Ok what do I have ?
On left side of receiver it says No4MK1 ROF (F) 10/43 which looks engraved not stamped.
On the muzzle it's stamped 303"2.2" under that it's has something my ok eyes can't make out( maybe a proof mark) then ???TONS or TUNS
One more thing, the serial number is faint but legible. Is there a way to look up the number that can tell me more about it ?
A Number 4 Mark 1 rifle made at the Royal Ordnance Factory, Fazakerly in October of 1943. The marks near the muzzle are British commercial proof. .303 caliber, 2.2" nominal cartridge case length and 18 tons p.s.i. pressure. The serial number won't give any clues to the rifle's history.

Don't trade it away: you have a nice, collectible rifle now. Just save up for an M1 carbine: those will be around for quite a while, and in the end, it'll be worth having both rifles. Trust me, don't sell/trade it.Quote:

PHillydude: There's quite a few websites you could look at to see what typical No. 4's are going for on your side of the 49th. Try Joe Salter, for example. Prices in Canada and the US seem to be sort of on par and in the last two years the lowest price I've payed for a No. 4 (in full military trim) was $350.00. Anything decent seems to go for $500.00 + these days or on up to $1000.00 if it's something special. Yours looks like a normal Faz with a forend upgraded to Mk2 specs, for some reason. In the USA, if you had five of them you might be able to trade for a decent USGI M1 Carbine. This says nothing about the relative merit of the two designs, just the insanity of the US market.
Most seem to sell between $275-$375 but you can find them for more and less. I think I paid $200 for mine a couple of years ago. Had a second one given to me last spring but that is admittedly very unusual. A guy has been trying to sell one for two months for more than it's worth and has hit "rock bottom" at $350. I don't think he'll sell it, been at that price for two weeks now and he's throwing in a bayonet and cartridge belt..
M1 Carbines are in the $1000+ range.
Ridolpho, what do you mean by marking on the forend ? Post a pic of the area to look at
phillydude: Was just thinking any manufacturer marks or serial number stamped on forend might help with an evaluation. These tend to be under the front end of the forend and on the underside of the butt-stock, adjacent to the socket. Given the modification of the forend to Mk2 form it's clearly not as-issued in '43 by Fazakerley but there might be evidence of an arsenal rebuild. However I have no idea if a forend of this form would ever have been officially used on the overhaul of a regular Mk 1.

Im on the other side of the state from you(harrisburg area), but prices should be similar. from what i can see of yours and its condition, assuming numbers matching, your looking 275-325 to sell, dealer would prob give you 200 tops, i know at the harrisburg shows their alot of no4's for some reason. you can find mint one for 400-450.
i picked this one up in feb at a local shows, dealer was asking 275 for it, just to give you a idea Attachment 47346 i would keep it, you wont get much towards your carbine from it, and their great guns, that single one made me love the enfields, im up to 5 now just since feb, definatly shot it before you sell it.
I just got done working at three mile island, I know the area pretty well.
