Rob, I don't know of anyone in the UK that markets that specific make of repro tin, but you can also get either square or rounded tins from AAS in France. I googled 'AAS Militaria France' & it took me straight to his web site. The only problem is that his are rather more expensive, at 185 euros for a square tin & 195 for the rounded version.
Happy New Year & ATB.
Not in Europe, but check out Wayne Machine Inc. - we supply gun parts and vehicle parts. in Taiwan. They may well be the producers of these and other vintage scopes, along with many other current and vintage military vehicle, gun and ordnance parts. I shot them an email re some parts, and once the shipping was figured out, and a bank wire completed, I had the parts in my hand a week later.
I know a small importer or two here in Canada who have been bringing in stuff directly from them.
I think I bought one from numrich a couple of years ago - they shipped it here (blighty).
Stencollector,
Boy, that is extremely useful! Seems to be the likely source of all the repro stuff we've been seeing. I will send them an email, and while enquiring about one, I'll ask the price of a batch of these, maybe I could arrange a group order for UK forum members. When I get a price, I'll let everyone know.
yours
Rob
Rob,
With my curious hat on, I too wanted to see what this guy could conjure up and see the level of his typical Chinese copying technique, and emailed him in November, and to date no reply.
It has to be said some of their machining techniques are brilliant on what is invariably cheaply bought British tooling, but a lot I have to say is crap and would not provide a consistent group using their scope mount or scope, unless someone can report to the contrary! They probably lead on scope gimmickry and mass produced air rifle scopes, but I don't think they can match a British made original and therefore would not be fit for purpose in my opinion.
Hi Gil9713
Sorry if my original post wasn't clear - but I'm not after a repro No. 32 'scope nor the mount, just the tin.
I have just been lucky enough to import from Brian Dick a 1944 No4 (T) in it's transit case. The rifle and its No32 Mk3 scope and mount are absolutely superb, and all 100% original. However, I lack the scope tin, and it is thus the tin which I am seeking.
I'm reminded of the old saying: "It doesn't matter if you have lost your virginity, as long as you still have the box it came in".
In this case, I have the virginity but not the box.
Rob
Rob,
No worries, I'll see if he gets back to me and let you know what he charges for one. It must be the Chinese Autumn in Taiwan or hibernation, as its nots long before they go off for a month on their Chinese New Year Celebrations in February

I have a spare reproduction tin that could be for sale (round edge type).. John at. DS-Solutions somtimes has them in stock,
I'm looking at reproducing the square edge type, but working with a local fabricator could take time as bigger jobs take priority.
Rob,
Certainly more reliable than China mate:thup:
I bought one from Numrich. Had to pay VAT and Post Office handling fee on import : ( Tin is OK but only one screw fixing takes the other is slightly out. However I've since read on this forum that that was quite common with the originals.
Do they try to replicate all the bumph stamped on the lid like the NSN etc as well?
Skiprat, PM sent
Rob

Hi Gil - it's sort of stencilled on rather than stamped. 2nd pic shows it all fits perfectly inside. This is the numrich one. No comments pls on mk1 scope adjusting device there! It's my only scope tin and is a good place to keep it safe... I'm sure you'll be fine to buy from the far east one - as long as you want 100+ ;) .

That's fine beery - just not the horrid nasty beastly ones ;). (I meant comments of the 'why's it there when it's not a mk1 scope' variety).
Look forward to reading it - never quite got to grips with my mk1 in terms of using the tool to be honest - on my 43 4t I've got it zeroed at 300 yards and have just left it there, remembering the settings, rather than properly calibrating it.
There is no need to EVER use that tool again if you just do what I'm about to say. I listened to another Armourer who learned it the day he found that the tools, both of them, were crap........ Slightly loosen off the lead screw locking nut - the OUTER of the two reverse slotted headed shafts. It's quite wide on a Mk1 and 2, narrow on a Mk3 and L1A1. Now tighten it down so that it nips up the lead screw. That is the INNER/CENTRAL of the two reverse slotted headed shafts.
Set range to 300 or 400 or whatever range you are zeroing rifle. 2 or 3 warmers into the bank followed by a 5 round check group, fore-arm rested, over a sandbag
Using ONLY the lead screw, hold the drum at the set range and zero the rifle using the forumla C=D+R. You know that 1 click is 1" at 100 yards and you KNOW how much a click equates to on the drum, so use this as a good/accurate method of adjusting the lead screw to zero.
Sit back, take flask from range bag and drink mug of tea. Gloat at others while doing so.
If anyone wants me to simplify the above, just ask.
If you are required to take your rifle and reenact the advance into Antwerp or ambush a high ranking passer-by crossing the Reichwald, then is the time to lock up the lead screw lock nuts
Peter,
How disappointing. You mean to say I can ditch the 45 minute lesson using the 7.62 round? ha ha!
Reply back from Shaun in Taiwan.

Hi Gil, did you, please, recieved any more info from Wayne Taiwan about No.32 Scope? I was writing them and still have no answer. I am interested in whole set or even the scope with mount. Went through all the blind spots as ITAR from Numrich, etc...
Or do you have another source for No 32 with shipping to EU?
Were you interested in only an rep? I have an original one, I'll probably be selling soon, if your interested.
Chuck
I know its an old thread but If anyone is interested I have a few on the way, although the outside of the tin will be in Land rover Bronze Green as per the original.
I,ll be listing them on that auction site, but if any Milsurp member is interested then PM me, I will have 8 tins left plus will come with a leather lens cover (they are not the best repro item the lens cover but will protect the lens)
I,m not expecting any purists to be knocking on my door, but if your looking to protect your expensive No32 scope then let me know.
Savlis,
Apologies, I must have missed your original request.
I have not dealt with the chap in Taiwan but knew of his existance copying No 4 ancillaries for those who wanted exactly that,.... a copy to protect their scope. He does other stuff to, but wouldn't want to give an opinion on his number 32 scope copies until I had seen one, perhaps someone else has bought one from him and can relay.
I'm afraid its not my bag using less than the real thing. My advice would be, save up and buy the real deal if you want to keep things authentic.
I got one of these repro cans, and it certainly looks good.
But I couldn't screw the No 32 scope onto it because
(a) the distance between the rear screw socket and the front spigot was about 2mm off
(b) the threads in the rear screw socket were not the correct pitch.
A bit of bending sorted out (a) and Roger Payne v kindly lent me a tap to fix (b).
Thanks for the info Rob, I,ll give them a tweak before painting and drill out the front screw hole as per original cans and send a tap down the rear if needed.
I don't suppose the Taiwanese guy has ever held a 32 scope in his hands to ensure it fits home. He is probably going by a drawing someone sent him done by hand!
[/URL]
Tins arrived and they are excellent, on the ones I,ve opened didn't need any tweaking, the threads are correct and bracket fits the spigot like a glove.....

He's improved the interior fixtures. I bought about ten off him about ten years ago, shortly after they appeared. I removed all of the internals & replaced them with much better examples that Graham Smith made. They were great afterwards, as I've always thought that the tin itself is a nicely done copy of the originals let down by the fixtures. However, he seems to have got it right now........
Does he still put spurious military markings on them? I asked him not to on mine.
ATB
Rog, no markings on them the interior is faultless AFAIK have gone over about 5 of them, only one tin which looks like a mistake was made and rectified but I,ll keep this one.
Looks like he's got his act together then!
