Sporter Krag-pics
I've been complaining lately, but today was a good day.:)
I generally buy sporterized rifles as project guns to restore. I saw this sporter Krag on GB with a pretty low bin price. This one I bought to keep as is. It is a work of Americana from days gone by. It has the original military stock that was modified with a grip, checkering, ivory and abalone inlays My pictures don't do the detail justice. Best part, the bore is immaculate. Pretty happy with this one.

I have a couple of nicer run of the mill Lee Enfields. I have to agree that now I also like finding the deals and bringing them back to an original military configuration. The better shape the gun is in,generally has less of a story to tell by way of armorers stamps,unit numbers and FTRs. The guns may be sporterized but some of the people that do them are doing good work and put out a nice piece such as yours. Looks great!

I had a Krag rifle in years gone by and would shoot it regularly. I'd go out with 80 rounds and go through all of it. Just a pleasure to shoot. That one looks like it will be too.

Krag is pretty mild and fun to shoot. I enjoy Enfields and Swiss rifles too. Mosin, not so much.

I bought a similiar looking Krag years ago, it came complete with Ideal reloading tools, 4 boxes of 30 Army ammo, and a couple hundred lead cast bullets, an equal amount of cases and primers. Cost me about $75.00, unfortunately it was stolen out my apartment while I was at work. Afterward I bought a shortened version which I still have.

Deer hunted with a prison captain who had one with iron sights. He could not miss. Never shot it unless at deer close enough for a clean kill. A 20 round box lasted 10-15 years and were all grungy and corroded. Giggled and laughed at first, but each time it drew blood hysterics turned to honor. The left side was all worn by the action where it rubbed his buttons from being carried for countless hours and days cradled against his chest. My opinion on this one is the same, enjoy it as it is.
