No4 (T)

Hello all. I had purchased this beauty last year and finally got the pictures taken. I see nothing to indicate it is fake, I do know the scope and sling is wrong, and will be looking for a No32 to put on it.

Is there a T stamped anywhere on the left side receiver wall above the No.4 Mk1?

Check the 130 picture virtual tour of the 1944 Enfield No.4 Mk1(T) Sniper Rifle (Mfg by BSA Shirley - M47c) displayed in the United Kingdom - Milsurp Knowledge Library.

Compare all the markings on your No.4(T) against it. ;)

Handsome rifle. The lack of a receiver side wall 'T' suggests that it is perhaps one of the 'less scope' rifles. Is there a scope serial number stamped into the wrist of the butt (just behind the cocking piece of the bolt)? Not sure what the vibro pencilled serials are, & are likely to be post war additions.

The bracket intrigues me. Is it possible to get more photo's of it, perhaps dismounted from the rifle? The surface finish looks different to what I would usually expect to see.
Do you have the original rear sight, or is that missing?

Hard to see, but looks like fore sight is stamped 045, and l T on other (bottom) side. Front of sight guard is stamped SM42.

The rifle did not come with a rear iron sight, and there is not a scope number stamped on the top of the butt.
I did not pull the butt out of the socket to see if the rifle number is also stamped there. I can if someone thinks this would be valuable.

It looks tooooooo good to be true if you ask me. And as a rule of themb, if something is too good to be true, it usually is.........

Bracket's weird. As for the rifle, only the replacement cocking piece really bugs me. But the could be a replacement done in civilian hands to correct a "Bubba'd" trigger job. As noted above, it's likely a rifle that never had a scope.

Apart from all that, how's it shoot?

As jmoore pointed out, maybe that is why the trigger is not as I thought a "T" trigger should be.
It shoots as good as I do, and may shoot better than I can if I put a real scope and some good ammo thru it.

I used your book as the guide for this but as some have pointed out some inconsistencies, if I may make a summary of the discussion,
would it be fair of me to say that this is a No4 converted into a "T" by H&H, but was never mated with a scope during WW2, and then a replacement cocking piece and a non-issue mount was put on at some point?
If there is more to inspect or takedown, or more problems please let me know.

Looks right to me, just like several I has/saw in the mid 90's, ask Brian Dick about the number he has handled with out a T on the action body. I would agree that it was likely one of the less scope rifles, never could understand how so many of those made it to US. that K4 60B with the lens covers should sale easy to a Garand collector, I searched for years to find a set of those lens covers for my M1D with the 1" mount, finally had to buy a hunting rifle to get the lens covers..
nice rifle!

The only markings on the scope mount are the stamped number, and the teardrop shaped mark by the front cradle.
