Found another Krag
-
From the looks of all your pictures it looks like you made a killing and cleaned up at this sale. :beerchug:
-
thanks alot it was over a week of hauling out of the gunsmith estate so i think i made my gas an time back so far. the total so far of whole guns that they said were junk is close to 30 whole gun. i have no clue how many more are there yet. just posted some pics of jap stuff under that form.
-
This one's a model 1896. I think that serial # would have been a rifle, not carbine.
-
would that mean that the barrel was cut an then frount sight put back on
-
-
Or, someone might have put a carbine barrel on it at some point.
-
is there a way to tell if that was done
-
What does it measure out to? Mine is two numbers off one in the SRS 1st addition Martial Arm list and it's clearly listed as a rifle.
-
from muzzle to frount of action is 29 1/4 inches
-
Sounds like a cut down rifle to me...rifle's 30" and carbine is 22"...I'm pretty sure. Maybe there was a ring at the muzzle, or someone's ham handed attempt to re-crown it. But to front of the action? Try a rod down the barrel with the bolt closed. Measure the rod, you may have the whole barrel there.
-
with bolt closed an rod down barrell its 30 inches on the dot
-
Then a rifle barrel...I can't see your pics. My computer won't allow them to open. You know stocks can be had right?
-
yes i would like ot put orginal stock back on this krag an others i have found. an so far none of the stocks i got with this estate are full lenght
-
You'll probably have to hunt one out. Either an original, which can be pricy or... Boyds: US KRAG 1896 RIFLE STOCK WALNUT (SEMI-INLET) Field Designs
-
thanks for that info asi think most of the stocks out of this estate are not complete. still working on going thru all this stuff
-
Oh, then it's a full length rifle barrel, 30" measured from muzzle to boltface. See, told you it was a rifle! LOL!
-
well i am learning alot for you guys thanks alot
-
So, now there's one more to rebuild. Or, sell it and let someone else re do it.
-
well yes some will be sold to futher pay for both a rebuild on one i want an to pay for the clean up of the gunsmith estate as i did the hauling for free an only charged them for my guys labor cost i think i got paid from what i am finding in everything they said was scrap an junk trash. i have sold enough on ebay an gunbroker to be even with my gas an truck expenses. so all i find now is my profit. this was my last major side job before i got hurt an had to close business down for now.
-
How much did you pay for the rifle?
-
hi i didnt pay anything for all the whole load of stuff that i have been posting about in the different forms on here reguarding the other guns i found in it
