A Pair of WWI 1917 k-block Erfurts

Filled a big gap in my Mauser collection with an all matching 1917 Erfurt Kar98a today. Pounding on the door early this AM of the UPS center in Sagamore, I was not to be denied.

Other than some goober putting the stock in a vice and shaving the bolt stop on the follower, all parts match including the bolt internals. The rifle has a great bore, stock has crisp cartouches, and the only blue loss is on the front band and floor plate from carrying. Sling is a repro, but of vintage leather.

My k-block Erfurt Luger picked up a k-block big brother.

Maybe steam would lift those vise marks? Nice pair though...

I'm going to try a steam iron over a wet cloth and see what happens.

I have a small hand held steamer that I use for that sort of thing. Locally available in hardware stores.

A steam iron took out the worst of the vice imprints, especially on the right side. It also remove the glossy finish from the area. Not sure if I want to steam the whole stock or build the gloss back up in the affected areas.

Anyone know how to remove the stacking bar to remove the rear band?

Figured out the stacking bar, but as I cleaned from the outside in, I found an undisclosed repaired duffel cut. Have an email out to the seller.

I did steam the rest of the stock and added a coat of Howards.

Too bad about the duffel cut, the whole looks great though. The steam didn't do harm, see? Those are scarce enough that this one will do nicely...you say it has a great bore? Nice...

That's just plain nice...the pistol's fine too but this is scarce. Specially with a good bore.

I got what amounts to a 15% consideration for the duffel cut; enough to buy a Gew88 bolt to part out to fix the clipped firing pin and missing bolt head of a WWI unit marked Spandau Gew88/05 on the way.

The P08 is rare in that it is unit marked: M.G. 10.K. L.122. N.4., which translates into machine gun platoon, 10th company, 122nd Landwehr Infantry Regiment, weapon #4. The 122nd was from the Kingdom of Württemberg and ended the war in the Argonne. This pistol probably came home with a Doughboy. All matching with original spare, non-numbered Erfurt magazine and a second non-matching Erfurt Magazine I got for it.

Yes, nice pistol too, exceptionally nice bore in the rifle. I'm a hog for a nice bore. If it's dark I'm less impressed if I'm going to buy it. Then some of them are just not going to be had because they have a dark pipe...

Both are WWI vet bringbacks? Very unusual and very nice.

Got a quick trip in at the range to test it. Shot a box of 1979 M75 Yugo surplus. I learned two things: rifle shoots VERY high (minimum sight 300M) and the duffel cut held up. Rifle functioned fine.

Certainly it did...and I'll bet there was no lack of recoil...that Yugo stuff can be mean. I wonder if it's faster than the German stuff of the time?
