SS rework or what?

I recently purchased a RC 98k that has some interesting markings on it.
I'm curious to know whether the markings on the barrel/receiver are consistent with a reworked rifle for the SS by Steyr.
I have Mr Laws book as a reference I'm still curious to see any opinions out there.

I attached (hopefully) several pictures but in case they aren't clear:

Left side-front to back:
Barrel: FP and then serial number.......... Receiver: Serial repeated for import and then "Karab98b" in script.

On top, over buffed out markings is: bnz and 4

Right side going forward:

WaA (cant read number) Weimar proofs "6" "43" "43" and then a block "5" or "S".

Thoughts?
Is it a RC that is a rework for the SS?

I don't think the bnz 4 markings are faked by someone who wanted to fake a SS reworked rifle. If they wanted to do that they probably would have added a single SS rune or a skull & bones.

I am not a SS K98k expert, maybe you should ask the guys on the K98k forum, they should know: The K98k Forum

The BNZ is handstamped. There were legit rifles which were done in this way. I cannot tell if this one since the pictures are extremely blurred and not very large.

In 1944 Steyr had problems in getting receivers, therefore they also used old Gew98 receivers. This has nothing to do with SS.

First off - you should update your reference book on the K98k! Law is a good beginners book, But is riddled with errors which makes it a very poor reference work on WW 2 K98k rifles!
As to your rifle, it looks like a standard production k98k altho as others have said your photos leave a lot to be desired for clarity.

The pictures expand and enlarge for me- particularly the 4th and 5th.

It wasn't sold to me that it, and I really wasn't sure if it, has anything to do with the SS.

Interesting rework of a rare Karab98b. Pictures not sharp enough to comment on SS part.

That's it- I couldn't find any SS markings on the rifle, though I haven't taken the action out of the stock.
The exterior markings (in the fuzzy pictures) are as listed.
My assumption is that the seller brought it up as a possibility, though I paid a fair price for a regular RC rifle (450.00).
He did mention "some books" so maybe those are the books others have brought up.

I am going with the idea that unless I can find some SS markings or something more that I have a retro fitted Karab98b- done to fill war time demand.

If I can- i'll send you better pictures and maybe just ask over on the 98 board.

So I'm thinking just a Steyr rework.

An interesting Late war rework of a WW 1 receiver, But NOT an SS rework!
Styer did a lot of these conversions late in the war.
