Anyone else shoot 3 Gun?

We've got a bit of a privateer 3 gun circuit in my area, now. After years of running matches myself at my home range, a couple other clubs have started running them, too. At the matches this year we're looking at double the number of shooters we've had in the past. They're not big matches compared to those in the US, but a decent turn out for being in the butt end of nowhere.

We've even graduated this year to having divisions modeled on the USPSA Multi-Gun rules. I'm going to take a stab at Heavy Metal at the match in Fort St. John, BC, next week.

I've shot a few 3 gun matches at our local club.
I used my custom race gun ( I customized) and my 97 Winchester shotgun and my mini 14, using my 90 rd drum after my mandatory mag change for the rest of the run.
Lots of fun.

We used to do them out here in Victoria before the laws changed. Then the FNs and M14s stopped coming out so the matches died off. They still do them now but more with the cowboy action shooters.

Bah, my 1911 crapped out. The firing pin is jamming in it's channel. No Heavy Metal for me tomorrow.

Back to my Glock and AR, I guess.

Take a small drift and tap it out from the front. Then turn down the biggest part by either lathe or just your drill press. Just a tiny bit...then find out why it flared in the first place. That'll give you the 1911 back...

Looks like fun! That's something (along with the Cowboy matches) I'd like to try some day. :super:

Perhaps you should look into trying to organize something at your local range? They can be interesting.

Sadly my local range is only interested in trap or bullseye. It seems like very few know (or care) that other disciplines exist and aren't interested in even hearing about them. :banghead:

Already did that once, Jim.

Managed to get everything free and clear by polishing the firing pin up. When I attempted to disassemble it last night, I had to use a punch to get it to move far enough forward to remove the retaining plate. And then drive it out from the breech side to remove it. It's going back to the importer/dealer on Monday.

Maybe a road trip then. Come up and see us for a few days...the three B's...BBQ, Bourbon and Blasting...

Someone has to start it. I started rifle then 3 gun matches here from nothing, by myself. After almost 10 years I still do the match design and organization, but at least I have enough guys to SO and help set up/tear down.

Just a guess - soft firing pin?

That would be my thought. A new firing pin will likely sort that out. I'm sure I have one...except that's a bit too late to help you now...

I had one that flared at the very back. Same sort of symptom...almost.

I hear you, but if I can't find at least a couple of others who are interested I'm not going to beat my head against a brick wall. This started as a trap club & they dislike the bullseye johnny-come-latelys....

Don't think so. They sent me replacement firing pins this week and they won't even insert far enough to get the retaining plate on.

Have you tried a G.I. firing pin? You're probably right though, just send it back to them.

No, I don't have any 1911 spares on hand, other than the firing pins they sent. In retrospect, it was a probably a good thing it crapped out. I would have been the only guy shooting Heavy Metal at the match yesterday, and the targets on one stage would have proved very difficult for me with my M14. I had a hard enough time engaging them successfully with my AR and 1-4x scope.

I finished 3rd out of 27 in my division and won a prize draw of an IWI Jericho 941 9mm pistol, with holster and 3 mags. So I'd say it turned out to be a pretty good day! :)

I'm MD for our first match of the year here in three weeks. Now the real work begins.

Well, at least there was that then. Should I send you my spare firing pin for a test? If it's successful you can always get me one later...or are you just going to send it back to them?
