I know I can send it to BDL Ltd and they will send it to Mr. Laidler but the only thing that needs to be done ( as far as I can tell) is the cross wire either needs reattached or replaced.
Is there any reputable company here in the USA that can do that?
I have to ask, why would you want to?

I tend to agree with limpetmine, that will be getting it serviced from someone we all know has don a metric scad of them. And a reputable dealer in between. That's where I'd put my money...
There MUST be a place in the US, surely......... The problem in just sending the grat diaphragm is that when it's sent back, guess what.........? You've got to replace the diaphragm with newly stretched .0008" thick platinum wire back into the cursor. And guess what.....?
a) Id suggest getting a scope repaired by probably the most knowledgeable and practised person alive today would be for the best outcome and advisable.
b) PR/marketing/value, rather than an unknown person, it could be stated as repaired by "PL" which would I think retain the scope's value.
c) I'd also suggest that PL looks it over and repairs anything else looking a bit worn out/not right so it lasts a long time, ie another 50+ odd years.
This is what I would do.

Have a friend who used to replace crosswires in scopes regularly, but had to move onto a paying job. Not hugely difficult if you're not a ham-fisted lout like me. Maybe something that Brian Dick can do himself?
Peter I have said this allot but will repeat the idiom for you " You would not send your Rolls Royce to a Volkswagon repair shop " and I am not being obtuse in saying that your fame at precision and doing the right thing not only by the training/experience you have but it has to be done right or not at all and the moral standard you set yourself.
I can just imagine you sending your beloved MG to a Hyundai service shop for servicing and tuning, the mechanics there would have never seen a Stromberg carby (guessing it has those being British)

I can think of a few additional reasons to send your No32 to PL: provenance, karma, "caretakership."
By sending it to the UK, you know it will be gone over and inspected with diligence and passion. It will be done right. These tools have a long history, and it is our responsibility as "caretakers" to ensure that they are preserved for those after us. PL will not be doing this service forever, so don't miss your opportunity. Lastly, you will enjoy the "service note" provided with your scope. I have sent 4 or 5 to Peter, and some have been very colorful and entertaining @#$%^!

I've disassembled and cleaned stuck drums before but that's about it. I've never pulled lenses and don't really have the time to add the title of instrument tech to my already overwhelmed life here. You say that all it needs is a new cross wire but I'd bet that once it's apart and inspected, it probably needs at least normal servicing, lenses cleaned inside and out, new screws, springs, etc. That's just my 2 cents from reading the worksheets from a couple of hundred +. That's why I refuse to give definite price quotes for these repairs. You never know what you've got until it's apart and inspected.

That is a good point, that you never know what you might find once it's opened up.
