need info on this auction

hi guys new to enfields an like this one here what is your opinion on this auction thanks mike

Well, it looks nice, but a lot more info is needed than just what they have in the pictures and what they wrote. Who made it? Date? Serial numbers match? Chromed sling holder would indicate to me that it was originally on a ceremonial rifle and put on this to "restore" it. Not a big deal but makes me wonder about the rest. At the right price it could be worth it. Others will probably give you more details, but you should probably start by asking them to get a picture of the left side of the receiver where all the markings are and the wrist guard.

Looks like it has a crack/split along the top of the rear handguard.

thanks alot i sent request to seller. asking for the info. i am not concerned about cosmetics of rifle just about function of rifle. such as matching bolt to receiver, will keep you guys updated. thanks mike

Guns For Sale - Enfield -- No 4 MK1

(PXF) This is an Enfield. The caliber is .303. The bbl is 25" long. The bore is excellent. I rate this rifle at 79% metal, and 78% wood. See the photos. Note that there is a chromed lower sling holder, and that the butt plate is brass. The s/n is 12617. There is a "B Z" over the s/n. An FFL or C&R is needed. Will accept a money order or cashiers check. NO CALIFORNIA BIDDERS.

Based on the serial number stated by the seller in his listing (BZ12617) that number would identify the rifle as having been made by ROF Maltby in the 1944-1945 time frame. What can be seen from the pictures would suggest the rifle is complete, the bore condition and is the bolt handle numbered the same as the receiver are important things to know now if you are going to be buying it.

A: The only number on the bolt is "M/202. The "band" says "12617". There is also "BZ" above the s/n. The stock, near the trigger guard rear, it says "J.C. over N22". It does look like a re-built gun to me.

From the answer you received, I suspect the seller is looking at the cocking piece where he sees the M/202. He needs to tell you what is stamped on the rear facing side of the bolt handle - this is where the serial number for the rifle that the bolt was last fitted to, was stamped. The BZ 12617 is the serial number as earlier explained - for a Maltby manufactured rifle around 1944/45. The J.C. stand for John Curtis and Sons Ltd. of Leeds, England, as does the code N22 - which was a wartime assigned code.

A: They do not match.

Even still with non matching numbers, if it goes for the right price it could be well worth it.

well as this is first rifle i would try an bid on i wanted to make sure it is worth the money i do know i can get a matching one for about 300.00 so i dont want to over bid or get burned thanks mike

well auction ended at over 180.00 thought that was hit for a miss match thanks for the help guys
