I was wondering about this Iver Johsno M1. I converted it to Tactical Style and well just did alot. I replaced all the Spring with the Wolff Service Set I changed Mag Brands took apart receiver check it out put it back, even tried a couple of different types of Ammo but i still get a little Stacking. I had Stove Piping but fixed that with a new extractor. What am I missing ?
Sometimes when you change the springs to something non standard, it will have a negative effect.
I agree, Try a GI spring. Those Wolf springs are often the source of problems like that.
I used the standard set they send for the M1 Carbine, I heard that there is a Spring set with 20% more or less. But I tried to find more about it. But nothing, is there a certain type of ammo it likes. My other 42 & 44 shoot fine, but I would never take away anything from them. I ve done the same to a Auto Ordance and it came out okay. I know im missing something. Thanks for your reply.

I was reading a discussion about Iver Johnson, and scared the heck out of me and even saw that IJ side blown off. But it was one of those 50 year Anniversary editions, so late last night i was doing some research and mine has a SN of AA00301X which was there Military and Paratrooper edition a very early edition and started to take it apart, i seen quite e few gi parts that i didnt even knew it had, so i got on the net. The AA is there very first M1's was with GI parts and GI quality parts. I got scared cause ive put in over a couple of thousands rounds through this gun. I feel quite lucky to have this very low number rifle and started to look at all the parts and comparing to my other 2 WW2 M1's an the parts look identical, you how you look at steel and just see its made the same and there was even some GI marked parts in it. I guess what im trying to say is im going to keep shooting this little bad boy plus those anniversay IJ weren't meant to be shot like the way they explained it and showed those pictures....i seen one on a wall once with the Bolt out and inside the owners desk.
Iver Johnson did not make carbines till after the company acquired the Plainfield Machine Co. Your carbine was made in New Jersey at the old Plainfield plant. The AA in the serial number means the carbine was a standard model. By the time the 50th anniversary model was made the company had moved twice and been sold once. The plant was now in Arkansas and the new company also owned Universal which they got when they bought IJ. They soon dropped the Universal name but the quality of the IJ carbine was questionable at best as were the late Universals.
I sent the pictures and sn to M1carbinesinc.com and got a reply. Your correct I knew it was made in Middlesex, NJ and was made in 1978, he sent me a copy of an old manual about the Iver Johson, it was later that i was hearing when they moved to Jacksonville, AR that they were starting to have lots of problems. They also bought Universal 1982, but prior to that in 1975 they bougnt Plainfield Machine Company up until 1987 tnen was aquired by AMAC. The SN "AA" was there first production in 1978 of milspec Miltary & Paratrooper M1 Carbines.

This is mine....i put a wood hanguard cause the matal one got old, but i got another in Blue and Black. 1978 M1 Carbine Iver Johnson the stock is the orignal. My Father had really took care of it. I remeber the day he brougnt it Home and said, Here Son, Now ! "Dont ever play with this Rifle without Me around, You here Me " ! This comimg from a tall well built Marine. Thanks Dad !

No BoB its not aluminum. ..i forget but I thougnt the same and the only descent gunsmith we had until his retirement said it was steel, but i forgot what type he called it, Thanks
