Hi my first post here. I have this Inglis Chines Contract and I would like to find out more info about it. I know it has mixed slide on it. I understand some were switched at the factory before shipment but I'm inclined to believe it was switched during a armory rebuild. The S/N between them look to far apart. Any Info would be appreciated. I tried to insert image but won't let me. Thanks Dave

A very good number of the Chinese contract Inglis pistols were imported into the USA during the 1980s and early 1990s when trade with mainland China opened up. Your pistol is most likely one of them and as you suspect a re-build. Hence the hodge-podge of S/Ns.
Your pistol actually looks pretty good considering the horrible state some of the ones I saw back then.
It looks like an honest pistol. Interesting marks on the front of the slide. Is there an import mark present, possibly on the bottom of the grip frame?
Brian, it dose have import marks present. They are so lightly struck it is hard to read. It says TWP inc. or something like that, (vary hard to read with two magnifying glasses together). They are behind the slide release on the frame, not visible unless the slide release is removed. The bore is nice and shiny, the inside is in vary good condition. The grip is inletted for a shoulder stock.
A lot of these were doing the rounds in South Vietnam that'd come down the HCM trail. And like Paul says, most of them were truly dire......... I got a No1 Mk1 that was quite good
Anything that could go bang came down the HCM trail. We 'collected' everything from MAT-49s and STENs to all sorts of Warsaw Pact and WWII German stuff after Tet '68. As Peter said, some of it was decent. In another place and another time, it would have been a good pickings for a collector.

Other than 5SFG, SEALs, MACV-SOG, and the CIA spooks, the "Septics" didn't officially have any 9mm weapons. Hence, they had no 9mm ammo in their normal supply stream. I doubt the ARVNs, Thais, Koreans or Filipinos had any 9mm weapons - everything I saw them use was US made.Quote:

We/Australia had plenty of 9mm. as we had pistols and SMG's. I wonder if anyone remembers when the wharfies went on strike that dragged on and on a bit and a lot of our resupply ammo came from UK stockpiles in North Malaya. All British marked!
I would have though one could find it if they tried.
