Here's a refurbed Lee Enfield 1939 Lithgow No1 Mk3*

Hi everyone,

Finally finished this No1 Mk3. Got it as a sporterized, got "DP" wood and metal bits from Springfield Sporters. Relatively happy with the end result. The forend still is a bit rough, but for the most part I think the look and feel of the added parts are relatively well matched.

Relatively happy???? Helzbelz, that rifle is at least 99% nicer than the rest of them out there and if ya stop to think about it we all LOOK at them a lot more than we SHOOT em......Great job, Lou. BTW, a range report would be interesting too!

Awesome job yet again Lou, I am going to attempt the same thing with a BSA MkIII from 1939. If it turns out 3/5ths as good as your'n I'll be wrapt.

You know, I just take my time, and I also took the time to ask lots, lots of questions. Many folks (most of whom lurk in here somewhere) were very kind, sharing their knowledge with me - and they keep on doing it despite my efforts to bug them to the breaking point :D

Gotta ask, lithgow stopped making the MK3 and went to the Mk3 * without charger cutoff well before the manufacture date on the rifle, also the fore end timber has the no.4 screw just above the trigger, never seen this on an smle except no.6 trials versions and such.
Nice rifle, should shoot a treat!

For the *, my guess is that they simply didn't bother to stamp it maybe; there wasn't event the slightest hint of a star on the butt socket.

For the forend, that's simply because for the refurb I ordered used DP wood (originally from India at some point), it also has the lesser-appreciated ishy screw,

Finally got a few pics of my refurbished target rifle, took quite a bit of work to get the furniture how I wanted it, of course I only polished it because it's my target rifle.
It's a British 1917 smle No.1 Mk3* that was retrofitted with a heavy barrel and sling swivel at lithgow, the nice predecessor to the HT. The central peep sight plate can be seen on the left side of the action body.
Sights not on at the moment.
The brass butt is polished and the whole thing looks and shoots a treat.
Check out the cheek piece, makes shooting that much easier.

L.HT, Too bad I'm on the other side of the planet because I sure wouldn't mind trying her out at the range... she's gorgeous!

Just found out the receiver was twisted when the heavy barrel was installed, bugger. But have sourced a mint condition 1916 lithgow action and matching bolt to finish the job, I'll post some more photos of it when it gets back from the armourer.
Bet you yanks drool over the readily available lithgow spares here in Australia that are reasonably cheap, possibly the same way I drool over a M1 garand.

Can I drool even if I'm not a Yank? :D

Yeah sure!:lol:

I guess that's unfair, I know not everyone's a Yankee, spent some time in Calgary last year, very nice place and friendly people.
And the snowboarding was fantastic!
