Looks like a No1 - with volley sight disk! - cut down, and fitted with what may be a Dragunov barrel. :confused:
Looks like a No.1, perhaps with a flash eliminator added.
Look at the shadow cast, there's a bipod and short forend. The mag box is unmistakable...it's an LE of some sorts.
Someone also posted this on CGN where it was suggested that the front volley sight is visible. As to the barrel, the front sight looks a bit like that on the CLLE hanging on my wall at the moment. If it were a CLLE then, of course, the barrel would look heavier than that of an SMLE. So this must be what this lad uses for the long shots- the AK on his shoulder his backup?

Seems a pretty heavy barrel too with, as mentioned by TB a Draganov type flash hider.
One may say he could be;
A) Taking pot shots at the herd at 2 o'clock near the telegraph pole just visible.
B) Harassing fire at who knows what.
C) Is a lousy shot.
D) Placed himself in a well defined spot ala road block for counter sniper fire. (Though we cannot see the background behind him there is a nice structure he is positioned behind as a great reference point)
Bandolier looks to be Turkish.
You are probably right about the bandolier. The picture is taken on august 4, 2014 by Ali Al Bayati in the town of Amerli in Iraq. All 34 villages around Amerli are under the control of Islamic State militants (ISIL). But this small town of Turkmen is holding out in a dramatic siege for over 2 months now.Quote:

But to be serious, since the magazine is still there it's probably still in .303 and the cases on the ground certainly could be .303. Could be a 7.62mm barrel that has been re-threaded and re-chambered?
