Added a Long Branch NO4 MK1* 1949 Like New Condition

Hi Guys:

Any tips or hints are appreciated. I picked up what appears to be a deal from a local gun shop today, a 1949 LB NO4 MK1*. The deal is in pain right now, the cash register is not ringing. He went back in the back and pulled this piece out, indicated a collector is selling off his collection 5 pieces at a time and he got this one in last week.

The rifle appears to have never been issued or fired, still coated in cosmoline, (dealer advised me not to clean it cosmoline since I'm not planning to shoot it) The barrel appears to be mint very sharp rifling, all metal on the gun is like new with with no rust or pitting.
The metal is finished nicely. Based on the bolt and the "like new" matching serialized magazine it's never seen a bullet before. The stock is smooth with only a couple of small dings. I would judge the rifle to be 95-98%

Any tips of things to look for?
Any idea on the current value of the rifle today based on the condition.

From the receiver markings the serial number should be between 91L0000 and approx. 91L2500.

The action was manufactured in 1945 and put into storeage.

The "C." in front of No4 MkI* was hand stamped, as was the 9 of the date.

One if my 1949s has a C.Mk4 6 groove barrel. Look for a number stamped on (probably) the right bayonet lug.

Serial is 91L1264
Don't see the marking you mention near the bayonet lug. The only C.Mk type number is I see is on the top of the rear sight: C.Mk3
No serial number on the stock, no markings on the stock at all, it's smooth with no ribs on the top forward hand guard.

Anyone have an idea of the current value of these today?

In Canada I would expect somewhere between $500-700 depending on how desperate the buyer and seller are...

in NC ? no idea

Congratulations on having the 1265th (of approx. 6,000) No4MkI* manufactured at Canadian Arsenals Limited (Small Arms Division) in 1949.

To put that number in context, approx. 15,000 Long Branch rifles are dated 1941, 60,000 dated 1945 and 45,000 dated 1950.

Ironically I just picked up its older brother 91L0451, but it is not nearly in as nice of shape.

I love the post war Long Branches too. One of my favorite shooters is my 1950 Long Branch. I took it out hunting for the first time this year after having it for almost a year and a half and I've done great with it. It is in decent shape and everything matches but I just love how the bolt cycles flawlessly and how smooth it is.

Easily over $1000NZ if it was here, probably closer to $1700NZ, maybe over $2kNZ.

Great! I paid 500.00 USD for it, I was not in the market but it looked like a good buy considering it's never been fired and still has the Cosmoline on it.

The Blue Book of Guns shows that the prices have risen on these in the past 7 years and this one at 95% would be 1150.00 USD. I plan to turn it hoping to make a few dollars; I want to land a nice M1 Grand.
