Where to get a decent reproduction scope for a no4 mk1?

Picked up a 1944 No4 Mk1 T sniper rifle. It has its original sniper stock I believe, certainly not a fake.
However when I got it, it came with a reproduction mount and a simmons scope.

I would like to find a decent reproduction scope to make it look and function somewhat correct. I have read on these forums to stay away from the chinese ebay scopes and the guncorp scopes.. I have also messaged Warren but have yet to receive a reply so I can only assume he has not had a chance to read it or does not have any for sale.

Are there any for sub $600 on the market? Paying $1000+ for a real one would be no problem.. but having an original scope and a reproduction mount would greatly annoy me. I'd much rather just have a full reproduction setup.

May wish to add a few K to your $1000.oo scope as there is one on bay at 3.6k most are in the region of 2.5k with bracket may work and then again may not luck of the draw really.
You may be lucky and get one that may fit and be within the scopes adjustment to take out any errors in alignment but then again!
Have a look on the thread scopes looking for rifles or vice versa and who knows you may find your rifles scope, either way it will cost...

Hope it works out for you plenty of people here that have good knowledge of these things but it is trolling the net pretty much.
Send in some pics of it so the wise pelicans here can look at the markings etc and give you perhaps a bit of history on it.

I had a trawl through the RIFLES LOOKING FOR SCOPES and SCOPES LOOKING FOR RIFLES forum site a week or so ago and it seems to be full of people with spare scopes......... Maybe you ought to be doing the same and contacting them suggesting a trade or whatever...........

There is one on gun broker for $325.

I do recommend saving your pennies though and buying a real no32 scope.

Thanks guys, like I said I do not want to spend the money on an original scope and have a reproduction mount.. I did this with an original Russian PE sniper and it drove me nuts until I sold both the optic and mount.

As far as the cost goes.. I cannot find the $300 scope mentioned on ebay.
But I paid $800 for the rifle. So after a scope and original mount I will have $3400 invested into a $2000 rifle :(

Hope that better explains why I am looking for a reproduction. I'd like to end up in the green on value.

Don't buy a repro. scope if your rifle is pukka. You will just regret it, as many other before you seem to have done. A No4(T) with correct scope is a valuable and appreciating asset, whereas one with a repro scope is not in the same league.
If your bracket looks wrong or doesn't line up the scope correctly, get one of Roger Payne's brackets.
His brackets were good enough for the MOD when making up L42A1s, so they are from an official MOD supplier - just civilian contract ones.

A `captured´ German ZF4, Zielsechs or any of the others might well be `authentic´ ... and definitely more shootable (certainly more easily attainable and much less pricey). T´would probably be 100% more sturdy too. Only trouble I can foresee is that none of them would fit a one inch bracket.

I'm probably being a little slow here but I don't quite understand the op's point about values & being out of pocket. I know I suffer from being the wrong side of the Atlantic Ocean & original 4T's fetch more here than in the US but I would have thought that your rifle, & I mean by US standards would be worth somewhat more than you paid for it. If you buy an original scope & bracket you will of course have a lot more invested in the whole rig than if you buy a repro scope & bracket, but the value of the whole will increase in line with this. You will never lose money on the deal. If the worst came to the worst you could re-sell the scope & bracket for what you paid for it (or somewhat more if you hang on to them for a while), & then at the very least get your money back, if not a profit on the rifle. Please give me a dig in the ribs if I've missed something here.

And as we've often said before, a genuine scope & bracket will appreciate, but a repro will always be a repro. But please don't think I'm trying to push you in a direction in which you really don't want to go - it's your rifle to do with as you please - & it's a oozing character. The above is just my (mis?) understanding of the situation you're in.

Hi Roger, here you can find rifles with match scopes and mounts for $3000-4000(from my research). It would seem foolish to get a scope and mount(easily $2000 if all original) and put it on a $800 rifle.

If I ever went to sell it, I'd never get my money back.

My collection style is never pay MSRP and never invest more than you can get back when it comes time to sell. I just want a gun I can take to the range and have fun but still look good.

However at this point I can tell there are no decent reproduction scopes. For me spending $2000 on a scope and mount is just to much.. I have Russian PE and PEM snipers sitting in the safe scopeless for the same reason. Its a labor of love and I just dont have the wallet for it.

Thanks for all the tips and help, it will likely sit in the safe a couple years until I come across the right scope and mount for the right price. I took it out shooting yesterday and it performed exceptionally. 2 inch groups at 100 yards, with my poor eyes and a peep sight.

I got a mixed message from what you said, a Sniper T will appreciate always and if you got a scopeless one for 800 smackers you did well and as said the T & scopes will only appreciate they are worth a bit of faith.
And as also stated a repo you could actually go backwards on the invested monies on a repo scope as P.L and others have stated they do not stand up to the recoil and will never increase in value.
Pics of the weapon would be good so the people will be able to give you some of its history so to speak

I'm with Cinders here. I've only been a bit-part reader of this thread so forgive me if I've got it all wrong but my reading of this, shared with others I suspect, is that you have obtained an absolutely classic but incomplete rifle. A bit like falling onto a V-12 E type that's missing the wheels and tyres and some of the body panels. But you want to fix it up to complete on the cheap. Not just the cheap, but cheap-as-chips cheap. Well, you ain't going to do it that way I'm afraid to say. You gotta speculate to accumulate! Start by getting a commercially made bracket from England. If they were good enough for the UK MoD to refit our rifles, then they're good enough to fit yours too. They ain't cheap but genuine E Type bits ain't cheap either

As it is, a No4T rifle without a telescope and bracket, even with a fake telescope and bracket is basically just a No4 rifle. Just like a Taxi without a taxi sign is just a car!

$800 for a genuine scopeless 4t is very very cheap - in the uk you'd be looking at least at £1000+. I have seen mk1 scopes got for £550 on ebay recently which would be prefectly acceptable to use - and you could hunt out an original bracket ... or buy one of Roger's repros - which are 'authentic' in that they were actually used as replacements on l42s. I don't think you'd lose money on the set up in any case.

No need to pay $2000. to get an original scope and bracket in the USA. Not even $1000. at times. Get a good photo and walk around at gun shows showing it to people and asking if they know where you could get such a scope and/or mount. Something will turn up.
