Fake rear sight confusion

A few years ago I purchased a couple Inland barreled receivers from CMP with the intent to build shooter rifles with parts from gun shows, internet, etc.

Back then I bought a bag of 5 rear sights marked fake since the real ones were very pricey.
Now, years later, I am back at the project and have a question on the sights.

The bottom 4 on the picture are obvious fakes, but could the top square S one be an original? Or is it a "George Special" made by a humper with a pretty good eye for detail?

You may have trouble getting hard answers on this as some see it as helping the humpers...

I understand. A few times I would bring parts to Nick Daly to help me identify, but haven't seen him at any show here in Colorado in a year or two. Don't really have a local contact anymore.

So the barreled receivers had no sights and you want to make shooters? Why not use USGI adjustable rear sights?

Was that one of the receivers sold by CMP that "may have unusable barrel still attached"?

They did come with PI marked adjustable rear sights. The rest of the story is I wanted at least one rifle to shoot that "looked " like it came from the factory without spending a bunch of money.

I already have some carbines purchased from CMP as they were released several years ago. They are all mixmasters with adjustable sights and I really didn't want to change out the sights on any of them.
I shoot these carbines Attachment 59992also.

Don't remember anything about unusable barrels in the CMP description.

That's a beautiful rack of carbines! I didn't understand your level of carbine knowledge or I wouldn't have posted the advice I did. Obviously you want to make one in early configuration and don't want to use fake parts. Good luck! Would like to see it when you're done.

And Inland44, your first response really got me thinking. Although I have been a member here and on Culvers, CMP, etc. for several years, I really have not posted much. I could have provided more info in my first post than I did as to what my intentions were with the barreled receivers.

I was fortunate to find CMP a few months before the carbine frenzy and was able to get most of my carbines through them. The other 4 were purchased at a local gun show here in Denver and at the CMP "for sale" site.

None of my carbines are "correct as issued" and never will be. I like them the way they are.
