K98 cleaning rod?
I got this cleaning rod with a K98 DOT 44. It doesn't screw in, the threads are wrong. I was wondering if anyone might be able to tell me what rifle it might go to? A US 8-32 nut will fit on the threads. It is about 12.25 inches long. The threads have been cleaned up with a file. Thanks

Before you decide the threads are wrong, make sure the bolt in the stock isn't clogged full of gunk. I spent 20 minutes two nights ago trying to get a VZ24 rod screwed in. Kept pulling goo out with each insertion. Kept at it and it finally took hold.

It didn't work on my K43 either. I bought an original rod and that one screwed right into both the K98 and K43. I was thinking this came from a different kind of rifle. Maybe a mauser used by another country. It was on the dot44 when I bought it but the rod barely caught the first thread.

Maybe the previous owner did what I did and bought the longer rod by mistake and being a cheap bustard cut and threaded it. It's a shameful and Bubba like thing to use electrical tape wrapped around the rod to hold it in place, but.....:dunno:
Never mind, yours is the long one...

It kind of looks like a carcano rod.

I know nothing about carcanos. How long are their cleaning rods? This one has the threads in the end to screw rods together also.
-
Carcano cleaning rods for the short rifle and carbine come in two lengths. They also screw together. Krag rifles also screw together. If if is a carcano, it would be for the carbine, they use two. Short rifles use three sections. Krag rifles use 3. I don't think it's a krag. I suggest a web search, they should tell you lengths.

I have a Krag with original rods and it isn't one of those, they a shorter. I looked up Carcano rods on Liberty Tree, their Carcano rods are 9 3/8 inch, 6 inch and over 25 inch long.

It would be nice if there were a book on cleaning rods. I had a rod I was trying to ID for a good while. It DID turn out to be a Krag section. It was stuck in a Chilean Mauser I got in exchange for some work. Pretty sure is it not Chilean, they are straight with the same size head as the rod.

This one looks almost like a K98 rod when laid next to each other. The K98 ones I have are squared off (where it goes from rod to thread) before the threads start, this one is rounded off before the threads start. It was also pointed at the thread end.
