High Wood repop M1a1 stocks
Okay, so I was going to save up for a genuine M1a1 but so few of those that are still around are from the first production run or not arsenal rebuilt. Second production run would be nice too but in terms of "correctness" I've never seen any photographic evidence (yet) of an M1 or M1a1 with these later features in use before February 1945.
So I was thinking about building up a fist run fake out of a beater action but there doesn't seem to be (or almost never has been) any high wood repro stocks anymore that I can find. Can some one fill me in on this or does everyone on all those other forums out there on the interwebs just have no clue what "high wood" means even when they say it?
I don't think I can ever hide the seam if I just glue another piece of walnut in there!
I love that "they" make the rivets and leather better looking on some of the newer ones but still can't figure out high wood and no M2 cut. True, every "new" "replica" carbine gets it wrong too, obviating the point in the first place and basically duplicating the about 5.9 million original late feature rebuilds we already have out there. ( I know, I know, most people don't really know or care about details and/or history etc.)
