Interesting AK-47 chest pouch (Chinese I think) and a damaged AK-47 magazine which I also believe is early Chinese manufacture.
The magazine has a smaller than 30 caliber hole that entered the floor plate of a loaded magazine. Looks like a 5,56mm bullet that struck the floorplate, jammed the follower tightAttachment 63218Attachment 63219Attachment 63220 and all the loaded cartridges were dumped out
Is that blood on the flaps or just rust?
Just dirt on the flaps but there is a large circular spot on the back, the owner might have had a bad day
That Chest Pouch would go very nicely with this TYPE 56 Rifle.....

Very nice AK. I had several of that kind in the small arms school in Gagetown NB, there were originally 6 folding stock rifles too. That slowly decreased to 1...but anywayzzz, nice Type 56.
We had a large collection at the Brigade HQ and Int cell in Malaya sent down from Vung Tau and we were always asking the Battalions in Nui Dat to look out for a fabricated body AKM to examine. But so far as I recall we never got one. Did the VC or NVA get AKM's
Not sure if they did get many AKM's? There is a small batch of Vietnam bring-backs in New Zealand, all the ones I have seen so far have been the milled receiver TYPE 56, most have the chambers drilled and bolt faces welded. This one is unmolested except for the inscription scratched onto the butt 3PL V COY 4 - 11- 70 and I believe the carved symbol means "Red Dragon". If anyone can confirm it, that would be great.

I have both a chicom AK and a chicom mag chest pouch. Both are Viet Nam bring backs. The AK was registered during the 68 amnesty.
Unfortunately the guy who brought the AK back let the feds conn him into welding it up when he registered it.
Here it is along with my other VN bring backs. Have trophy papers on all but one of the K98ks.

That character is used to represent the "axis" or "centre" and is HALF of the name of China. It is "sort-of" pronounced "Choong" and the other symbol that should follow it, (if writing the name, "China") is "Quoc", meaning "Kingdom" or similar. Hence the term "Middle Kingdom" being used for China. However, the translation "central" or "pivotal", i.e., that around which all else revolves, (and all that is implicit in that name), is probably more accurate.
Maybe the last "official" owner of this particular AK was noisily interrupted in mid "carve".
I have manage to find the person that scratched the markings into the butt of the rifle. The rifle was captured on the date marked on the butt, it was an ambush of 2 VC, one was killed in the contact and the other was wounded and found later when they searched the area. The rifle is from the WIA and the markings were scratched on the butt with the nose of an AK47 round. The officer wanted to ensure he could 'find' the rifle again after it was handed over to 1ATF when they got back from the mission as he wanted to present it to the officers mess. Needless to say the rifle never got presented to the mess.
I have a 1935s French pistol that originally captured By the Viet Minh from the French in the Indochina war (1946-1954). Later Recaptured by a U.S. Marine from NVA officer along with his helmet and a flag in 1968. Will get pics as soon as I can.
Rick B. (The Barnwood Story) has a Ruger Blackhawk revolver chambered in 30 cal carbine, it was captured in Viet Nam from the Viet Cong by a G.I. Rick has the paper work and photos and if he reads this
post, am sure he will post it. It would be interesting to know how the Viet Cong got this Ruger ?
I didn't know that. We talked about those type handguns that shot.30 carbine and that fact didn't surface...
The biggest gun captured (as at 1969) was a 120mm ex British conbat recoilless anti tank gun at the southern end of the HCMtrail. It was always a mystery and no-one ever got to the bottom of it. I suspect that it was left behind somewhere and...... Or it was a bit of a hot potato

It was the early heavy old MOBAT that had a sliding breech mechanism. They were stripped right down when the newer Land Rover mounted WOMBAT was introduced. The armoured shield was removed plus loads of superflous stuff (and I think the traversing gear too which made it friction rotatable - but correct me if I'm wrong). It kept the .303" Bren ranging gun that matched the trajectory of the 120mm HESH round. It immediately became reasonably portable and towable but not as light as the Wombat
Sort of works out the same then. With no FV 432 to carry stores, it would need a full platoon to man pack and be effective. And right, where would that have come from?
